I know this is only for fitness, but would you want him in the team?

Not sure about playing, but can't do any harm having a professional around the young players

I don't understand why this is suddenly such big news. Isn't this about the 4th time he's trained with us?

Mind you, he would bring lots of tourists and fangirls to the bowl. Lots of lovely wonga....

With beckham, henry, bobby and sol we'll have a great spine to the team...about 5 years too late :banghead:

Good to have around probably good back up to arteta, he'll do a job like Wilkins did for qpr, and hoddle did for chelski/Swindon all those years ago but will he make defence stronger? No

I'd rather we signed nobody at all than that prick. Anyway no chance of it happening.

what did you guys think of beckham when he was on his best?

i ask that because he was always questioned here in brazil, i guess for not having 'our' style of a winger, since we mostly have dribblers and runners out wide. no discussion that he could hit a football like few, but was his overall game THAT good to earn all this england legend status? all my memories of him are spoiled because i fucking hated that man united team

He mostly earned his 'legend' status for England for the important goals he got like the one against Greece in the 93rd minute from a free kick which meant England qualified for the world cup, as well as getting a huge number of caps. It wouldn't be really fair to judge him on the qualitites that a Ronaldo type winger would have as he isn't that type of player but for a few years he was probably one of the best strikers of the ball in terms of passing ability, free kicks, corners and crosses, especially at club level when he had good strikers who would get on the end of them. Some people like to downplay his talent because of their hate of the 'Beckham brand' but in all honesty that's just clever marketing by Beckham and shouldn't detract from his footballing ability.

I never remember Beckham being as good as many people claim. For starters, Ferguson wouldn't have seen him as disposable if he was that good I don't think. People say he was sold because his persona had outgrown him as a player but imo Ferguson pied him off because he knew United could do without him.

People will point to his link-up with van Nistelrooy in providing goals via crosses during a certain period, but tbh Valencia has done exactly the same as Rooney when he has had the odd purple patch in front of goal.

Always thought he was one of those players who was over and underrated at the same time – since a lot of people's opinion of him seemed to be one extreme or the other, often seemingly as a reaction against the opposing view of him. Personally I veer towards thinking he was more overrated.

He had an extremely limited set of attributes imo. Even in open play he'd stop the ball dead at every opportunity and turn it into a virtual set-piece. :barscarf: Boring as fuck to watch but effective. But he did absolutely maximise that limited skill-set – through hard work & also just by knowing what he was good at and how best to utilise that in practical terms - so I give him credit for that. In the past 8 years we've had several players who were infinitely more naturally gifted than him but haven't come close to achieving what he did in his career combined. Arshavin, Rosicky, Diaby, Reyes to name a few all could have great careers with Beckham's attitude.
