AW signings the past 3 years

Post by spendsum4uckingmoney »

I thought i'd do an honest assessment of his signings

2012/13

Monreal-LB- 8.5m- The fee is rather high for a full back. Obviously its early days so I wont count this

Cazorla- AMC- 16m- A very good player but not world class. He seems to lack consistency and doesn't quite have the same pedigree as Fabregas. If I were to be critical i'd note that he was hardly an inspirational unknown signing. He was very much a FM player's signing. Overall i'd give it a 7.5/10 good player + decent price.

Podolski- LW/CF-11m- A player with a very fine shot in him but his consistency issues are a concern. Again he's hardly an unknown and when you consider his 90k a week wages (especially baring in mind we berate Theo for having 10k more), he seems to be underwhelming. Overall i'd give him a 6/10.

Giroud- CF- A player who is very traditionally British in terms of forward. Despite being statistically on good form I think I've seen enough of him to know he's a slightly above average player, not much better than Chamackh. Overall i'd give a 6/10.

2011/12

Arteta-CMF-11m- Was very much a key player for us in 2011. He may not have been a quality player but he filled the huge void in the midfield that year and in doing so helped us gain CL footy. The downside was his age of 29 and his injury record. Overall i'd give him 7/10.

Mertesacker-CB- 9m- This signing was a surprise considering we were linked with Cahill and Samba. It's true we were hoping for some much needed height but in this case it was at the expense of agility. The guy looks hopeless in a league of speed bullies. Overall a huge dissapointment 3/10.

Andre Santos- LB-6m Another player to join the long list of Winstone Bogardes at the club. At times he looked completely out of shape and unprofessional. His positioning sense made Armand Traore look reliable. Overall- the worst signing of the Wenger regime 2/10.

Park Chu Young-CF-3m- Barely played. 2/10

Oxlade Chamberlain- forward- 12m- There were moans about this signing as we had enough of young talent. Fortunately the early signs are good. 8/10

Gervinho-11m- Headless chicken with no composure and always leaves us at an innapropriate time for ACON- 4/10

2010/11

Koscielny- 11m- A complete unknown who goes on good runs of form followed by some not so impressive. 6/10

Squillachi- 6m- Old, overpaid, useless and slow. Horrible signing and we cant get rid off him. 2/10

Chamackh- free- free in name anyway. he's on 60k a week and doesn't play. Cant get shot of him. 4/10

-------------

Overall. The signings have ranged from uninspiring and very average (Arteta) to downright awful, such as Squillachi, Chamackh, Santos and Young. Whilst we may have managed to break even in terms of net spend during this period, we have still spent 130m in transfer fees, of which many of the players we have bought haven't been good enough. The players that we have lost during this period included:

Fabregas
RVP
Nasri
Clichy
Song

Making profit is one thing but to sell players you actually have to replace them. The players we have replaced them with have not been good enough despite the 130m spent in the last 3 years.

Hmmm. Not sure chamack has been a better signing than Per.

Also not sure Ox has been best signing-certainly has potential but suffers from inconsistency like other players, not been given as much a chance as others i suppose tho to be fair.

On the whole, just highlights what everyone already knows-how poor the players coming in have been compared to those who have left

Mertesacker a worse signing then Gervinho and Chamakh? Have a day off.

Has his flaws and has been made to look stupid by some right plodders (Morrison at Norwich anyone?) but I still maintain he's our best defender who is let down by a complete lack of defensive organisation.

Otherwise I pretty much agree, we've signed a few 6-7/10 players but having lost the best CF in world football and one of the top 5 midfielderslwe needed a bit more.

Monreal for £8.5 million is a good deal in the current climate.

Cazorla is inconsistent but for his first season i think he's done ok his fading and inconsistency reminds me a bit of Silva. Mata is probably more Cesc class but Cesc was a class above most players in this league.....still is.

Poldi/Giroud/Mikel you're spot on but bit harsh on Arteta, he's better than an average player.

Santos/Chu-Young/Gervinho/Squillaci all serious WTF moments from AW.

Per I think he's not as bad as our formation and lack of defensive organisation make him....but god he's slow.

I still blame Chamack on AW. He was a good forward before RvP took his place on the team. He had more impact in our team till December of his first season than Giroud.

In the end the profit seems to be the main aim as they think they will keep making their freebie £30million from champions league to keep Stanley happy......they've only got 2 max 3 players that can make them serious money in the transfer market. Then what ..... :?

harsh on Arteta,if he wasnt spanish he'd be an international for any country,we should have bought him to play alongside Cesc, not instead of!!.Podolski ,so frustrating, not for his performances but cos Wenker plays him out of position,id love to see a Pod/walnutt front two,he has a hammer of a shot.tbh just about every signing wenker makes these days looks shit cos the team led by our dear lord is clueless,we'd make messi look awful in truth.

I'd say that Podolski looks a much better player than Giroud. I'd also have given Arteta an 8 or 8.5 rating. He seamlessly fit into the side when we bought him, and he's very consistent (without ever being too flashy). I'd suggest that if, in each of their respective positions, all of our players were as good as Arteta is, we'd easily be a top four side.

2012/13

Monreal-LB- 8.5m- Too soon to tell but as long as he is better than Santos and can stay fit he will be ok.

Cazorla- AMC- 16m- I compare Carzola with Nasri rather than Fabregas, and actually like Carzola over Nasri

Podolski- LW/CF-11m- Very inconsistent, though most of the team is, plus cannot last 90 minutes. On his good days he can be 9/10 but often not that good. Arsenal need more goals from Podolski and Cazorla.

Mertesacker-CB- 9m- Adds height but I rate him the same as Koscielny, both are as likely as each other to cost Arsenal points

Park Chu Young-CF-3m- Barely played. 1/10

Oxlade Chamberlain- forward- 12m- Seems to be struggling this season. 7/10

2010/11

Koscielny- 11m- See Mertesacker.

Squillachi- 6m- Makes Koscielny and Mertesacker look like reliable defenders.
