France manager Didier Deschamps had opted not to call up Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby for international duty next week, much to the relief of Arsene Wenger.



The Gunners manager yesterday pleaded with Deschamps not to include Diaby in his France squad that will take on Germany next week, fearful that a needless friendly may be detrimental to the midfielder’s fitness. Diaby has only just returned from a three-month lay off, and the Arsenal boss is desperate for the 25-year-old to get as much rest as possible in between games.
