Our team

Post by the playing mantis »

This is waht i think of those players in and around the team.

GK
chesney: decent prospect, but thats the key, a prospect, shouldnt be number 1 and we need a better player then he at number 1, be it a veteran or a mid 20' yr old. ches is not top class, and i dont belive he's even the next rung down from top class. position desperateley needs strengthening.

his back up is not worth mentioning, none should be at the club.

RB
sagna: good player, top class when on form,
jenko: good prospect, can cover well enough for sagna

no issues here
LB
monreal: looks decent, needs time to adapt to new team
gibbs: when fit a decent player

no issues here

CB
Verm: not a defender, relies on his pace to make up for lack of positioning/awareness, much as toure did, has since he signed, but has become increasingly error prone last 2 years. not a title winning CB, but a good 3rd/4th choice.
Kos: seems to have developed and then regressed, too weak agaisnt the big men and error prone, again not a defender who we will ever compete for the title with, good 3rd/4th choice
BFG: not good enough for the PL, too slow and cant jump.

Midfield
Jack: top class
ramsey: should never start, but maybe has a place as a squad player, so long as he is only used to cover the worst injury crisis
ox: gone bacwards, needs time and top class players to learn off.
santi: goes missing in big games, good player against weaker teams, if he had class around and ahead of him would, look a lot better, but as would AA were he played in his best position. not much difference between the 2
diaby: finished
rosicky: ok squad player when fit, but never fit, so shouldnt be here.
arteta: solid decent pro, doesnt do much wrong. but we wont win a title with him as one of the main midfileders, hes decent but not top class, for a club of our supposed size/ambitions im afraid he should be just a squad player.
gerv: dire
forwards:
Pod: good player should play up top, good enough for a title challenging side.
walcott: only worth 100k as we have nothing better...a dgood squad player, but as ever not a player we will win titles with if hes starting every week.
giroud: not good enough. would be a decent 3rd/4th choice, but thats it. not that much better to bendtner

basically we have very few players who realisitcally are good enough to play in a sidewho hope to challenge for titles (although we dont anymore) i think the days are gone, where we said 3 players would put us as serious challengers, now its a lot more needed. i appreciate a proper coaching and tactical regime would get more out of the current lot, but still nowhere near enough for us to challenge at the top.

to be honest we are such a disorganised shower of shit under that senile old fart at the moment its become almost impossible to sort out the wheat from the chaf now,it would take a new manger(some chance)to come in and see things with fresh eyes then see who he sells and who he keeps, cos i tell you something apart from Jack it really is hard to tell if most of them are even top flight footballers at all sadly

Well said, agree with you for most of that. I strongly believe we need to sort out the defence first and foremost. I think two CB like Georgio Chiellini or Mats Hummels, and a better keeper would make a huge difference to our points tally right away. I want center backs who just defend old school, before anything else. No bullshit that we get with vermalen etc. We need to go back to basics, and that would be a solid start. 8)

I think 2 fullbacks can sometimes hurt you.. if one is injured (and that's the case more often than not..) the other one has to play every game. There should be at least some player <20 able to play the position imo. I'd rate Santi probably a bit higher than you especially as it's his first season and as you said it doesn't help that he has to play with some.. not so good players.

" i think the days are gone, where we said 3 players would put us as serious challengers"
I don't know. 4 players might be enough? A goalkeeper, centreback, midfielder and striker.. of course all of them top class. Good goalkeepers and defenders can organise a defense so apart from their individual quality they could make the rest better.

It doesn't matter who we sign because when the manager refuses to practice defending or adapt tactics to suit upcoming opponents, whats the fucking point? Anyone who's half decent when they arrive will have gone backwards by the time they leave, having had all their skills coached out of them!

If Wenger is given 70m to spend in the summer it will be the end of Arsenal for 5-7 years as it will take that long to recover. He will spunk it all on French rubbish as always. How the fuck is Grimandi still employed by the club (he is still Head French scout isn't he?) after Gervinho and Giroud someone deserves the sack (as well as Wenger)!!! :banghead:
