Not a red for me but no sympathy for them what so ever. They've just had a taste of what many premier league teams have experienced over the last 20 years ago at Old Trafford. And I have seen much more baffling red cards than that. For me the decision was about intent, and on the replays you can see that he is watching the ball, but at the time it happened very quickly and the ref needs to make a split second decision and you can easily argue that it looked dangerous and possibly deliberate on first viewing.

The media will call it a huge travesty but in truth it happens all the time, it's just this time "the whole world was watching". As usual, Fergie has proved once again that the idea of him being a gracious loser is laughable. Every now and then when they don't win a relatively unimportant match he offers feint praise for the opposition and the media report him as being some higher being that is always respectful and fair, but as soon as it matters and it doesn't go his way he can't even face the media. I assume UEFA will charge him with failing to carry out the required media obligations post match?

What is being overlooked in this national tragedy is the role of Rednose....regardless of the merits of the card he had to get down pitch side and reorganise his team . He had lost a winger that flirts in and out of games, not a central defender. Instead he attacks the fourth/sixth or whatever official he was. The great tactical genius and motivator didn't do it on the biggest stage. Hate to remind you but Chelsea were 2-0 and a man down in the Nou Camp last season. United's task was massive last night but achievable. What it needed was a cool head on the sideline.
