Does anyone here read Arseblog?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Has Arseblog really changed over the years though? - because despite this talk of him being in the clubs pocket, I can't say I've noticed much of a difference :?

From memory, I thought he'd always been a pleasant, middle of the road blogger, offering a decent round up of the days events and has always seemed happy to leave insightful views to others. Whether that's because he's incapable of thought provoking commentary or because he's trying to maximise his fan-base by sitting on the fence, I'm not sure.

I much prefer the thought provoking views of other blogs, such as Gunnerblog and especially Myles Palmer over at ANR, but few post on a daily basis, so Arseblog offers a service that I would genuinely miss if he was to stop blogging.

I can definitely understand why he would infuriate many fans because he's as well placed as anyone on the internet to tackle the current issues at Arsenal, but that's not his way - and crucially, I'm not sure it ever has been.

I stopped reading arseblog ages ago. It used to be a bit of a laugh but at this stage he's just a schmoozing twat sitting in the clubs pocket......

You are correct-it's his full time job, which explains a lot.

You don't seem any different now g88ner - pleasant, well-written pieces - but FUCK you've changed over the years

It's not always immediately apparent :rubchin:

I used to read arseblog religiously but the authour is now the definition of sitting on the fence.

Not a fan of blogs in general because most (all?) are just ego-maniacal wánkers without a fucking clue about football but do looooove to read their own words up there on the old interweb. Used to read Arseblog a bit and it could be funny the odd time a few years ago, but he never really seemed to have much clue about the game tbh. Now he's just Pravda-Lite so fuck him.

That is the frustration. Isn't Arseblog always voted, by some margin, the most read unofficial Arsenal website or somesuch in the annual Gooner survey? I've put stuff in the comments about the need for Wenger to go but there are a ton of muppets on there ready to shout you down. Maybe he'll lose readers as people start to realise he's Pravda-lite. But then again it probably means he gets more hits via Pravda.

Hello, someone told me about this thread, feel rather like a christian in the lion's den, but still need to clarify a couple of things.

1- Yes, I did a deal with the club regarding the book and the membership pack. I think it's a good book about Arsenal, it wasn't done to get in with the club or anything else. It was just business. Everyone's gotta eat.

2 - I've never had any kind of freebie or junket. Ever. I've been invited to a few things which might have included tickets/watch a game from a box, I've always turned them down.

I did attend a 'look around' of the medical facilities, but I paid for myself to travel from Dublin and back because when the hell else am I ever going to look at the training ground or get to talk to Colin Lewin etc? It was just interesting from a fan's point of view. I wrote a piece about it, and was quite up front about the fact I was aware they were doing it as a bit of PR. Other bloggers attended, I did my tour with Goonerholic, after me was Le Grove and Real Gunner and there may have been others.

3 - I've never met Ivan Gazidis. I did an interview with him once which was supposed to be for a podcast but the club wouldn't allow me to broadcast it so it had to be done as a transcript instead.

4 - I may not be as harsh as some people but I'm certainly critical when I think it's merited. I just can't get into the abuse that goes with so much of the criticism these days.

5 - It's not my full-time job but it is a big part of what I do. I realise it's not to everyone's taste, there's plenty of other blogs and sites out there for people who don't like it. But I also do it because I'm an Arsenal fan, I have been for as a long as I can remember, just like all of you, I guess.

6 - The official site links to a lot of blogs, not just mine. They have 13m Facebook fans, 2m Twitter followers (I have 32000 FB and 100,000 Twitter), they don't need me or anyone else to do their job for them.

And while you can now tear me to shreds if you want, I just wanted to make it clear that accusations freebies/payments/junkets etc are off the mark and I hope you appreciate why anyone would want to do what I just did.

cheers.

Hi mate,

good on you for coming on here and stating your case. I also like the fact you didn't have a hissy over the criticism of your blog  but rather addressed the inacuracies in this thread. However if you do feel any of the comments on this thread are unjust or libelous, let me know and I'll remove them. We have a fairly loose and fast ethos around here and leave as much content on as we can, but obviously we don't want to be closed down.

Welcome to the forum, if you like it, stick around. Post some tits. 8)
