Yep - £600m to build and they pay £15m + £2m/y in rent. Haven't the council also backed Spurs' proposals for a new stadium with significant funding?spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:So we go into debt to buy a 60k stadium and WHU get one practically overnight courtesy of the British tax payer. Wonderful.

they could have a 6 million seater stadium they still won't get more than 20,000 people through the gates

Pretty shocking how the taxpayer has been rinsed and worst ham only pay £15m, would have been worse if the spuds had got the ground and given them an unfair advantage financially.
I couldn't give a fuck if they can fill it, im more annoyed money is being taken from my pay packet to pay for it.

Think you might find that the residents of Newham are actually subsidising this little club and the barrow boys. I seem to recall that (one of the poorest local borough councils, that did not even benefit from the Olympics) they were going to receive a £50-60m subsidy to facilitate their move.
Re: WEST HAM GET NEW GROUND
West Ham will fill the Olympic stadium if they us the logic we do.10-15 thousand empty seats at the Soul-less bowl means an attendance of 60,000

Saw article today saying that West Ham are going to challenge the elite with this move. Yeah (our) history proves that leaving your spiritual home to move to a state of the art stadium is the easiest road to success.
Re: WEST HAM GET NEW GROUND
I'm delighted for them, Hopefully i will take my Grandson to a Hammers match there and then to the Emirates if the matches fall on Sat and Sun! The poor child has only ever been to Upton park

Re: WEST HAM GET NEW GROUND
I think that Haringey Council have promised £9m and Boris Johnson another £18m, so £27m in total. Some of this though will be spent on local infrastructure rather than on the stadium.northbank123 wrote:Haven't the council also backed Spurs' proposals for a new stadium with significant funding?
Re: WEST HAM GET NEW GROUND
The Olympic stadium will end up just like the Emirates and Old Trafford - full of day trippers.
West Ham have about 25,000 hardcore fans so once the novelty has worn off and they are fighting relegation as usual, the crowds will be shocking.

Re: WEST HAM GET NEW GROUND
Derby fan on BBC Radio 5 asking why Derby Southampton & many other clubs have to pay for their own new stadiums whilst City, West Ham & Tottenham get government & council grants & subsidies for their grounds? Also mentions smaller clubs like Barnet being put out of business & having their grounds closed & sold, where's their help?
Why did Arsenal have to contribute £115million towards transport links, local housing, & council recycling facilties? When the Swamp Dwellers get subsidies from North Middlesex Council, Boris & the GLA, and are still demanding the Victoria Line be extended to the Swamplands?
