Abou Diaby - Injuries Thread

If in any other job you couldn't fulfill your duties, you would expect to be sat down with management and have your contract terminated. The same needs to happen here, even if it's gonna cost us. Let him use the facilities to get fit again if need be but just get the guy off the wage bill.

BUT - this says much, much more about Wenger's appalling judgement.

* Quite why Wenger has kept faith in Diaby is a feckin' mystery
* Diaby has played about 6 good games in his 7 years at Arsenal but he has had his contract extended twice.
* He is currently on £60,000 a week (£3million a year!) which is a ridiculous contract
* Wenger eulogises about "Diaby's return" as if we've just signed the best DM in the world
it does. I have no problem with a coach sticking by an injured player, even a serial case like diaby, rosicky or RvP - but and this is the big but, having no plan "b" is criminal.

it makes you think that surely at some point someone would have said 'what happens if he doesn't come back', but oh no the GIC has the belief that 'he will come back better and stronger' and so it must be so.

until it doesn't and there's no back up in the squad, whilst other clubs are picking up quality DM's and winning titles.

i'd put money on us not picking up a world class DM in the summer on the basis that Diaby will be back in January -by which time we're 4th again, almost out of the CL and on our way to sacrificing our domestic cups for european 'glory' ....

it's all so heartbreakingly familiar.

if his career is finished, the club has insurance policies that pay off his contract. but he has to sign that off and retire.

if he comes back his new club have to pay the insurance co back.

the problem is he has no incentive to retire does he ?

With Wilshere out until proven fit, it falls to Arteta, Ramsey and Coquelin to hold the centre of midfield now.

Was just thinking that under George Graham I would have faith in those three, each being given a clear role to play and instructions, but under Wenger I do not share that faith.

Possibility but so far I am not convinced by him there, and he is having a poor season?

1989 - 1991 = Davis, Rocastle and Thomas and Kevin Richardson and Anders Limpar

1998 = Vieira, Petit and Platt and Parlour and Keown

2002 - 2005 = Vieira, Gilberto and Parlour and Fabregas and Edu

2013 = Arteta, Ramsey and Coquelin.

God how our standards have dropped . . . . . . . .

Well I do feel sorry for him because no amount of money in the world can compensate him for the loss of a playing career, which is effectively what happened to him after he was tackled in 2006.

He is as you say financially comfortable and might make a career in management though.

The club has a duty to him to get him fit again, simply as a means to walking in non-footballing life.

But then yes, I think he should retire from playing.

No offence but bollox to that quartz - the club has a financial obligation to pay up his full contract or work out a settlement package but after that our obligations end. In all honesty quartz, if he got his contract paid up then he could afford to go anywhere in the world to get top top treatment and lets be honest here and admit that he would be better off if he did just that instead of trusting our medical team  I mean you say that the club has a duty to get him fit again but they havent managed to get him properly fit in the last 7 years so how could they be expected to do so now ?

His contract should be paid up now. Tell him that we'll see him through his injury and then he can fuck off somewhere else. Thing is, we will probably just give him an extension if he ever does get fit.

"clear role and instructions, what ees thees clear role and instructions. ees like a cake yes ? "

imho your fittest players have to be DM - so much running and tracking back. Arteta probably and Ramsay definately don't have the engine.

I think Jenko, or Coq or even OX could do it as they have the legs. whether they have the patience and ability not to get sent off regularly is another question. mind that never stopped Petit did it.

That's not like for like though :? Ramsey and Coquelin are squad players; why not include Wilshere, Rosicky and cazorla? :o

If you'd written "2013 - Wilshere, Arteta and Cazorla" it wouldn't look that bad, would it? - I reckon only 2002-2005 beats it in your list above.

Edit: 1998 beats it as well   Petit and Vieira were awesome 8)

What memories are these? Unless of course you meant nightmares.

Diaby's own goal v UTD in 09

The red card v Newcastle in 11

The guy is a complete liability and overrated.
This is the memory I'm referring to:

His one and only career highlight.

It is outrageous that this has been allowed to happen. Well done Wenger. Diaby's contract should be terminated. Just pay him the money and get shot.
