THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Look if Wenger has got a new contract then I need the solace of being buried in a mountain of coke and tits as a minimum.

I think the problem is that this squad has the potential to do well but always seeks to achieve the bare minimum to get by.

Where was this backs against the wall, grinding out results when it actually mattered ie in the chase for our first trophy in 8 years?

deserve some credit, if we get top 4 again

to constantly continue to get top 4, year in year out after having to sell our best players deserve some credit, we relied so much on RVP last season
and to think what has come in, has been average at best. and we still stride for a top 4th place

Are you taking the piss ? :? We didnt have to sell our best players and wenger has picked the shite players that were brought in so to give the man credit for causing this shambles is fcuking ridiculous :banghead:

bollocks we didnt have to sell our players. what can you say to van rapist when he specifically says he wants to go to utd on the last year of his contract? of course he's gonna go. what can you say to nasri when he gets offered double his wages?

wengers picked the shite players cos thats the market we have to shop in. you win some you lose some. it dont take a genius to work out why our record fee is only 15.8m. it dont take a genius either to look at the accounts and see the only reason this football club makes a profit is cos of player sales.

blame wenger for his shit formation and playing players out of position but bollocks to saying it's his fault he can't spend the money. bollocks to the 70m warchest as well cos thats a load of tabloid shit. read the accounts. the money ain't there.

MY GUESS,
having read the accounts:

The money is there to buy more players but Kroenke has demanded that the war chest can only be further used if really neccessary, until now anyway.
He is saving the cash to offset stadium debt.
He has sanctioned selling top players such as Nasri and Van Persie because he is a businessman first, football chairman second.
Kroenke's financial equation is:
"Profit before titles, stay in the Champions League on current level of spending to maximise profit."

In the meantime Kroenke watches foreign money pour into the London housing market during a major recession, this does the club no harm, and somewhere down the line as Herd has mentioned, Kroenke can consider the rights to internet TV or whatever new technology is in demand at the time.
So too possibilities for new competitions such as a "Transatlantic Cup" or a "European Premier League."

There was money there under the previous regime too, but there was never a possibility of Wenger spending the whole lot in one go.

It is six of one half a dozen of the other.
Wenger could have spent more than he has, but not nearly as much as the PR people would have us believe.
