THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I went into the local Ladbrokes today. There are five different bookies within 50 yards of each other in this small (ex) market town.
The cashier is a Gooner, and we got chatting. He is about 25/26 y/o. This town has a disproportianate amount of toilet supporters, so it was good to chat with a fellow Gooner.
Anyway, he told me that is a fact that we have signed Jovetic and Silva, and that Wenger has a £70m WARCHEST to propel us to the title next year. I laughed at his suggestion and tried to reason that we would sell before we bought, and that the £70m was paper talk, and I bet him a tenner that our net spend would not exceed £20m this summer.
I asked him how he felt we could bridge a 20-25 point deficit with the champions of the past few years, and he derided me, with the explanation that Wenger had been hamstrung by the board.
Ok, I reasoned that Gervinho and Giroud were not compulsory purchases by the board, that Wenger wanted them and he explained to me, in a sentence that, I cannot possibly be a Gooner, and that I must be a spud on the wind up.

I have been in similar situations before...... At the end of the day TL too many of our fans are quite happy to believe the bullshit that emanates from the club, instead of opening their eyes and actually noticing what is happening to the club. :blah:

I share your frustration.... :banghead: :banghead:

Is Wenger the man who hasnt been able to compete financially with foriegn investors recently, but soon will be able to just like Bayern, when the stadiums paid for? I think I'll stick by him a little bit longer, and watch him win the prem again.
Roll on saturday and stuff the mancs.
And is Wenger the man who is the manager of the club that has some of the most gullible fans in football?

It's quite possible but who is on which side of the gullible fence is a point of debate.

Wenger has had financial restrictions since 2005 but -

Wenger is the man under whom we have not won a trophy since 2005.
Wenger is the man who has failed to coach defence since 2008.
Wenger is the man who has failed to set out decent team shape or off the ball pressing for any consistent length of time since 2008.
Wenger is the man who believed Andre Santos was a left back despite all the evidence showing he was nowhere near our standard.
Wenger is the man who thought Gervinho was a striker.
Wenger is the man who persevered with Eboue when it was clear he was a squad player but not a first choice level.
Wenger is the man who ran Cesc into the ground when we could all see he was exhausted.
Wenger is the man who ran Wilshere into the ground when we could all see he was exhausted.
And then admitted he had brought him back too early.
Wenger is the man who said he thought Vieira and Cesc would be unable to form a midfield partnership
Wenger is the man who let Diarra, Flamini and Gilberto go in one season and thought Song would be a long term replacement.
Wenger is the man who though Squillachi was worth £60,000 per week.
Wenger is the man who though Silvestre would be worth buying.
Wenger is the man who sent £2.1M on Park
Wenger is the man who plays Cazorla wide left when we can all see his is much more effective in the middle.
We owe £320M on the stadium, it cannot be paid off until 2031 and even with the board stashing cash in the bank to the tune of £125M we have a long way to go.

(The Manchester United game is on Sunday. Just so you do not miss it!)

Wenger is the man who said "You can not sell Fabregas and Nasri and say that you are a big club"

Wenger is the man who presided over the worst league defeat in 100 years dismissing it as "special circumstances"

....the same "special circumstances" he used to describe the club throwing away its best chance to win a piece of silverware in six years when losing to relegated Birmingham City at Wembley

Wenger is the one and only man to manage a PL side that threw away a 4 goal lead in a match

Wenger is the man who paid £50k per week wages to Bendtner, Denilson and Djourou on the back of achieving fuck all and then proceeded to have to loan them all out season after season (financial restrictions didn't seem to stop us investing c.£8m a year in wages for these goons plus Squidgy, Fabianski, Chamakh, Park and a host of other shite)

Wenger is the man who chose to leave out the country's stand out player at the time in Arshavin for the cup semi final against Chelsea in 2009 and played Fabianski in goal again (who then proceeded to throw away the cup.......again)

Wenger is the man who despite supposedly being the Coach of the Decade gets himself tactically outwitted by Pulis, Phil Brown and Allardyce before getting involved in pathetic spats that last for years

Wenger is the man who has said "judge me in May" every year since 2007

Wenger is the man who took off The Ox in a game where he had United reeling and just created the equalising goal....replacing him with a now overweight and out of sorts Arshavin who proceeded to gift them a 2nd goal (just to stick two fingers up to the crowd)

Have to say Quartz and SteveO have hit the fucking nail square arsed on the head. 8) Fucking amazes me that anyone can still think Arsene is the right man for the job. :o

And SteveO even managed his first post in 12 months that didn't suck Diaby's cock or whine like a bitch about Giroud!

Additional;

Wenger is the man that continually plays the few quality players we have had over the last 5 years out of position, just so he can wedge them into his failed system of tippy tappy Barca-Lite football.

For some strange reason I just read this whole thread. Not having been around here in 2008 when it started. It is genuinely possible to see the anti wenger sentiment creep in like a virus between start and now.

Are you serious? It's crept in as all of us at some point have loved Wenger but gradually his powers have waned and gradually supporters have realised. Not virus like really?

Yep. It's an analogy that I think accurately describes the changing views of some folk, and the clear change in the majority forum view from 2008, when the thread started. That is not necessarily a bad thing as changing views is how the world goes round, but it is best represented perhaps by a couple of responses I've had from nice folk saying things to the effect of "be prepared to suffer an onslaught" etc because of my pro wenger stance and one of the first posts in this thread (in fact the second post) being the same thing that I've had said to me but on that occasion to someone from what is now the majority hereabout but was, as far as I can gather, the minority.

Same posts but from the opposite direction, and the gradual tidal change over the time has been from one view toward the other in (imo) a virus like way.
