what happened when we won the league at Old Trafford?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86IMQ7BeyBw
I watched this in the pub opposite Islington Townhall (now the Vineyard then I think it was called the 149 or Moon Under Water) cried my eyes out when we won it
Still for me our best season - the Invincibles were special but a bit lucky: we played virtually the same XI all season
In '02 we had injury after injury, a different player sent off every week - I doubt ANY team will ever have 3 keepers win Champ medals again
Anyway, I don't really remember the end of that game and oldWhiskynose has said something that confused me:
when told we'd do a guard of honour he said: "When they came to Old Trafford in 2002 and Sylvain Wiltord scored the only goal, we did exactly the same."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22307991
No idea what he's talking about there... does anybody?
Is it just standard ManUre lies or is he referring to something I don't know about?

I heard that comment today and was puzzled too.
They certainly didn't do it before the game as we were not champions till the final whistle, having won comprehensively 1-0.
Perhaps old whiskey nose is getting confused with 1991 when they were guard of honour at Highbury when we won the league thanks to Liverpool losing before our 3-1 victory v the Mancs ?

Great post JD
My littlun had an ear infection and was shouting the house down all day. So I was beginning to think I wouldn't get to the pub to watch game.
Thankfully the cyst or whatever it was popped about 6.30, so it was a reassuring job on the wife that he was fine.
So off to pub at 7.00. packed with gooners and a good few real utd fans, bottles of champagne in fridge courtesy of Davy Lees (gooner barman)
An historic night unfolded, champagne was spilled and genuine utd fans congratulated us.
I had very confidently booked a half day off work the following day, so struggled in to work knowing I was headed once again for the pub at lunchtime to watch Sky's celebration saturation of our victory.
Fuck how I long for those days.

was a great night, not a better place to win after it after 3 years of hurt, but we weren't champions until the final whistle, the abuse and hatred in that ground in the first twenty minutes was something else, we won the league against the mancs that season, forget liverpool. We beat united 4-1 on aggregate that season to overthrow them. Only problem is we couldn't defend that title even though everyone could see we were the best side in '03, they had the better mentality, the better manager . And that reflects upon where we are ten years later.

May 8th 2002. In a strange way, I've never been so relaxed about a game and even though we had a few players out injured, I just knew we would win there. I haven't got the foggiest about what old Ferguscum is on about, he's getting two events, 11 years apart, totally fucking confused. What happened that night is that *word censored* face sent his team out to kick the shit out of us, we didn't rise to it and it was the first time the media started to see him for the cock-job, *word censored* he really is. May 8th 2002 was when Wenger said the balance of power had shifted.... still waiting really.
Re: what happened when we won the league at Old Trafford?
I swear to god Giggs came out with some old guff after they welcomed Chelsea onto the pitch back in 04/05.
Something about, we'd do it for Chelsea but not Arsenal. We'd rather give them a punch on the nose.
Can't find a snippet on the whole internet but I swear down I remember reading it.

I couldn't get to watch the game, had to listen to 5live commentary. Remember going mental when Wiltord's goal went in and spending the night rightly and royally pissed afterwards.
After the fulltime whistle I enjoyed calling my Scum supporting brother to rub his nose in how Big Sol now had what they'd never have (and still f**king don't). We were missing so many players that season through sending offs that I remember someone commenting that we now trained with just 10 men to get us in practice.
I can understand whisky nose forgetting and the sad journos that lap up his every word don't even bother to challenge him.
Those really were the days.
WTF happened Arsene

I remember that cheating horse faced *word censored* punching freddie straight into the stomach and wasnt punished at the time nor was he punished afterwards by a tv panel
Wasnt at the game but even from watching it on tv you could feel the absolute poison atmosphere that night

They replayed the punch, Tyler and Gray go silent and ignore it
at that point NewsInternational owned 10% of ManUre, total pisstake
Our 99, 03 and 05 teams were all better than ManUre yet they found a way to beat us...

Every year they'd just try and kick lumps out of us because they knew we were a better footballing team than them and they knew they could get away with it.
2003 will always be painful, we blew it plain and simple. A double double and the Invincibles would have really reinforced what a dominant force we were in that era.

Re: what happened when we won the league at Old Trafford?
Oops, my mistake on the league. Chelski actually were the best team in 05
Remember that cup final well,
I actually stayed for longer after the Liverpool game
was at the exit looking back when Paddy lifted that cup...
for me the season after was a far greater source of pride than an undeserved FA cup

Re: what happened when we won the league at Old Trafford?
It should have felt wrong but I was still pretty f**ked off at them stopoing us from getting 3rd double in a decade by kicking us out of the FA cup in the Invincibles season. Can't remember who the ref was but the amount of fouling they got away with in that game was disgraceful. It was probably old mother Riley.highburyJD wrote:Oops, my mistake on the league. The pizzagate game ruined our season so picking up the FA cup whilst whiskey nose got sweet FA felt pretty f**king good. They may have had the last word eventually but with the absence of prescience at the time,it felt sooooo good.
Are yiu saying you prefer the champs league run with a lost final,no trophy and the start of our decline to picking up a cup..... that sounds Glory-glory nonsense
