Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Not sure I'd want us to sign Villa as I reckon his goose is probably cooked. He was always at best a 1 goal in 2 striker in any case, what we're crying out for is a 30 goal a season predator.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Thing is to get such a player/striker/predator - wenker would need to spend in excess of £18m at least and there's no whaaaay he's gonna do that.

Cant see Michu as being the type of signing Wenger would make, then again he has made some suprise signings in the past, some good and some bad, personally I agree though, Michu could do wonders for us!topgoon wrote:For his injury record 16million is too much. I'd prefer Jovetic. Why is no one considering Michu, he has had a better season than all the other strikers and even though he signed a new contract, his get out clause can't be that high. It's Swansea ffs. Think 12-15million would get him.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Quartz - why do we want another bloke that "can play wide left midfield too". That is one of the main things that pisses me off about this current squad - too many players that are non-specialists. What happened to wing specialists like Overmars and central striker specialists like Wright? Is it too much to ask these days? We have too many strikers-cum-wingbacks and it shows when we play the big clubs because the wide men are not good enough to beat the best full backs and the strikers are outmuscled by the best centre backsQuartzGooner wrote:I would take Remy for £8M.SteveO 35 wrote:No thanks......an average French striker for 8m is the last bloody thing we need. 8m for remy would be a good deal imo and if we have any semblance of intelligence then the deal should be completed tomorrow or Tuesday before other clubs come in for him - qpr are now relegated so moving for him now won't affect them one bit
He is not bad, already living in London having had a few months of this league, and can play wide left midfield too.
I would then try to offload Gervinho, and am also aware that there has been talk of Podolski leaving.
Remy would be a decent replacement for Podolski and an improvement on Gervinho.
We could then go for another striker too, Jovetic seems the likely one?
Think Augie is right, Villa's price and age will mean we do not bid for him.
I want a greedy bastard of a central striker that will notch 20 league goals a season, 30 odd in all competitions and who doesn't give a flying fuck about pretending to be a part time left winger. Look what its done to Podolski - shot his confidence to bits. He's almost forgotten how to be a striker now despite notching week after week when Koln got relegated (and boy they were shite)

Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Obviously signing him after a great season with Villa is a different scenario but I've also seen people acting dumbfounded that we didn't sign him in the summer. As if they'd be delighted that we signed somebody from Genk.SteveO 35 wrote:Signing a player who has proved that he can score goals in the PL?????mcdowell42 wrote:Stevo the answer is at Aston villa benteke a hatrick tonight against Sunderland now has 18 pl goals in his 1st season in a team fighting relegation he's only 22 I think and is better than giroud and the forehead put together

Agree that we wouldn't have been thrilled to have signed a bloke from Genk....but if the bloke concerned turns out to be a decent signing is that what top managers get paid to do?northbank123 wrote:Obviously signing him after a great season with Villa is a different scenario but I've also seen people acting dumbfounded that we didn't sign him in the summer. Personally I see benteke as being another heskey and would be very surprised if he had another prolific season like this one. It also has to be said that the guy certainly wouldn't suit our style of tippy tappy football and would require huge changes to make the most of his talents and tbh I don't think that he is good enough to justify changing everything for

Granted but I have had my fill of mediocrity and want us to aim a bit higher now or forever be destined to be no better than average

Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
I state that I would want Remy as second choice striker, with a more prolific player bought as first choice (the goal hungry central striker that you and I both pine for) ... Jovetic happens to be the name of the moment, next week it might be Barry Manilow for all I know.SteveO 35 wrote:Quartz - why do we want another bloke that "can play wide left midfield too". So I am happy for Remy to be involved wide left, which in the formation that we play is not a traditional winger, but a sort of half striker anyway.
We do not know that Podolski's confidence is poor, I suspect that it is an ongoing ankle injury which has limited his appearances and limited his appearances to frequent truncations around the 70 minute mark.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also would like to try two players up front...be fascinating to try Cazorla in a Bergkamp role just behind a new striker.
Rosicky/Arteta ( and eventually Eisfeld or Zelalem) to be other options in the role.
Podolski/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Remy wide left, Theo/Gnabry wide right, and Wilshere/Arteta centre midfield alongside a new ball winner or Ramsey/Coquelin/Yennaris..
Gotta be worth trying pre-season.
