Puma to make our kits

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

What the hell is going on?

Fergie retires and we may actually get paid a decent sponsorship for once. I can't stand this positivity! Tell me Wilshere got injured I need something to complain about.

They don't take over until 2014-15 unless I'm mistaken - don't we still have Nike next season? So I highly doubt they're going to be designing the kit yet!

All I want is fucking yellow and blue. I'm not particularly fussed about the actual kit design itself because I'm well past the stage of buying them, but yellow and blue is part of our tradition and history.

If the Puma PR department have any sense, they will ensure the first away kit is yellow and blue to please the fans..........for one season til we go back to pink n purple.

I probably won't be buying one... because it's puma.
The extra funds should HOPEFULLY be useful.

Might be a wind-up. Personally, if it's correct, then it's actually ok apart from the stripes across the chest! WHY DO THEY KEEP STICKING SOMETHING SHITE ON EVERY SHIRT???? Plain red/white or yellow/blue PLEASE!!
They just photoshopped the old spurs kit.

More than Liverpool and more than United because they tied in for 15 years with Nike I think. These sorts of deals will continue to rise in value every time a new one is negotiated though - I expect Liverpool's next deal (whenever that is) to be worth more than this and whenever United's is eventually up for renewal you can bet it will eclipse ours.

NorfBanks right - but this is still an excellent deal
at one point I was pissed off with us overpaying our negotiators, they've done a damn good job here

the kit deal could be worth 10p for all i care, because as much as the article points to it:

a) the spending habit will not change at all
b) the money will not be spent on players

this talk of a warchest .... we hear it every year yet .... it never gets used.... i think its safe to say when you hear john cross mention a warchest its time to check your emails because the ST renewals are in

a net spend of -39 mil in transfers since 06/07
since 05/06 -32mil
http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premier ... sfers.html

last summers 'warchest' of 70mil was dented by 8.6mil leaving 62.4mil so add that to the new 70 mil warchest and you get 132.40 mil

infact add up all the warchests and the net spends and you will see that we can buy anyone we want for any price ....
the talk is rediculous ....

which makes the value of the kit deal irrelevent to me and you

and I'm a betting genius if I only count the bets I win
net spend meaningless without including wage bill

Huge financial deal of course ( although as fans we won't see one iota of benefit from it  ) but I can't help but feel that the company (puma) is an indicator of our standing in the game these days - I listened to a stock market guy on ssn at lunchtime talking about the mancs association with the big sponsorship companies and how success is integral to that partnership and it reminds me that with all the will in the world we cannot ignore the fact that we are no longer amongst the elite European clubs :( Some fans, like lefty, will point to these figures and use them to dispute that suggestion but the story states that Adidas and Nike were interested "but not at any price"........this suggests to me that the two brand leaders were interested but only at a price more reflective of our standing nowadays and that suggests a total lack of confidence in where this club is going :( I will guarantee you that if we are still on the same downward spiral when this puma deal expires then we won't get anything remotely near this deal

Puma want to compete with the big boys so have overpaid, just like Warrior did with Liverpool
credit where credit's due, IMO that's good negotiating by our overpaid marketingmonkeys

And that kind of thing will work once but won't work a second time so continue to be failures and we will take a huge financial hit in 5 years time

Btw did I not read sometime ago that liver pools owners also own or part own warrior sportswear hence the inflated deal they done ? Maybe I am wrong on that but thought I heard or read it :?

Frankly I care very very little about who makes our kits. Of all the things complained about with the club the small logo on the playing shirt ranks very low.

Years of underachievement have reinforced to me that we have declined considerably from where we were a decade ago - I don't really see what going with Puma rather than Nike or Adidas adds to this. It's not like anybody needed this as confirmation of the extent to which we've fallen.

It's not surprising given those two companies' standing that they don't feel the need to saturate the market and beyond their handful of marquee clients are not willing to throw stupid money to the same extent as those lesser manufacturers who are desperate to establish themselves and get a slice of the pie. IF IF IF IF IF IF we actually spend the money I'm happy that we appear to have negotiated a good deal and couldn't give a fuck whether it comes from Nike, Adidas, Puma, Lonsdale, Uhlsport etc etc
