It was actually a good game to watch. Didn't expect to enjoy it but I did. Until the Chav *word censored* won :censored:

For all Benfica's exciting football they didn't really test Cech until the penalty which was criminal given how the game went. And their two centre-backs (and sub) were clueless whenever the ball was played into Torres' feet with his back to goal - they'd just do what Koscielny does when he gets panicky and get far too close and end up getting skinned and/or pulling him down.

Knew after about 20 minutes that Benfica didn't have the forward power to win the game. :banghead: :banghead:

Now you can call chelsea lucky all you want, but how many people would have backed us to win this evening, or indeed last year's final? The fact is their squad is full of leaders, winners, players with character (on the field, if not off it), really spirit and mental strength (not the artificial one Wenger constantly boasts that we possess   ) and they top that all off with genuine quality and world class talent. Yes, they've spent loads but how much better might we have been the past few seasons if we had managed to get a couple of players at the standard of Mata, Ramires (although he was poor tonight, a fantastic player) and a few others?

Having beaten us to the European Cup, they've now also accomplished a clean sweep of the European trophies ahead of us. :banghead: :banghead:  If things continue along this path - and with Mourinho rejoining next season there's no reason to suspect they won't - it will just be a matter of time until they eventually catch us up in FA Cup's and League Titles won. Hard as it is to admit, we might have to face the fact that it won't be too long before Chelsea have superseded as us the top club in London - if they haven't done that already.

They can replace us as the top team in London and given our comparative fortunes since Abramovich came in it's hard to say they haven't already.

But they will never ever ever replace us as the top club - as poor as the team has been since the stadium move we are The Arsenal and they're still a bunch of two-bob wankers. Fact.

Liverpool are still quite rightly considered the most successful club in England.

Chelsea have won 4 league titles, 7 FA cups,2 up winners cup,Champs league and Europa league

TheArsenal 13 league titles,10 FAcups Cup winners cup and Fairs cup.

In Europe we do lag behind but looking at the honour roll though you can't argue that despite an unprecedented Abramowich era, we are still the top club in London. In the country as a whole they lag behind Villa FFS.

What we need to do is not become the scousers who let 20yrs go by and let the Mancs sneak up on them

IHH it's not really a case of taking comfort. To use Benitez's own word it's a fact but we have to hope we don't let them get any closer to us.

As far as being the first team to win in London to win the champions league, in 10 yrs time if both us,scum and even a billionaire owned spammers thanks to their new 80k seater stadium all win it once, no one will give a f**k.

The scum were the first to win the double and I'm sure that blanket keeps them warm when they look at their black and white photos

At least they've made it to (more than) 7 European finals. Well, technically we have too, if you count the 94 Super Cup Final....

It doesn't feel like it offers much comfort when they're winning everything and we've won fuck all for nearly a decade, and I don't think anybody wants to harp on about the past like the Mousers do.

But we won't be shit forever, our manager and our board won't be here forever and Abramovich isn't going to turn them into a titan in the same way that Chapman, Busby and Shankly helped do for England's three most successful clubs. We are a fucking huge club and we will be challenging right at the top of English football again whether it takes 2 years or 20 years, and we'll still be a huge club long after Chelsea have pissed off back into the depths of mid-table mediocrity and being a small-time annoyance.

Sorry, NB but are you of scouse descent  , that post could have been written by a victim, comparing themselves to utd. The fact is the Chavs are now the top club and team in London.
They are the first London club to win the clge and now the first English club to have won every major club competition.
They are re-writing history every season, where as we are being further and further consigned to the annals of history.
At the rate things are going, in 20 years our children will be quoting glories they didn't even witness when defending the name of the club, that my friend is the harsh reality for fans of the "top club" in London. :(
