It's all about context and obviously if they've done it because of his religious beliefs then that's not on. If that is the case it's unbelievably stupid in the first place but to actually post photos of a religiously-motivated wind-up on social media - I would be surprised if even a Stoke player is that thick.

Without that element I highly doubt it's beyond the sort of prank that goes on at football clubs - especially after reading plenty of autobiographies and interviews.

Obviously doesn't condone what could legally be classified as a racially/religiously-aggravated crime but that article paints the picture of Jones being a miserable bastard.

Think it has to do with what religion Jones is.
If he is Musim or Rastafari, then it could be religious abuse IF Whelan meant it that way.

In my book it is not a practical joke though. Even if there is no abuse meant, it is not funny, just a waste of time.

Practical joke is something that involves humour and some clever planning, but there is a danger of them being taken the wrong way, even a seemingly harmless prank can result in death - like that nurse who thought she was talking to the Queen.
