This is such a lose, lose, lose.

If we get 5th, it'll be "we were so close to 17 seasons in the CL, perhaps we were a little nervous. Newcastle were relaxed, the ref had a bad game." and the scum will finish above us. On the other hand there an infinitesimal chance it may spark a series of events that lead to Wenger leaving.

4th and everything in the garden will be rosy, 17 seasons of CL football. What a great run, which we'll carry over to next season and other bullshit. He will be here for at least another year, but at least we'll be above the scum.

3rd doesn't bear thinking about. All the AKBs will be orgasming all over the place. Wenker will be saying this squad can go on and challenge for the title next season... even less money will spent.

The closer it gets to 4 I am thinking I want us to get 5th. I know there is the pain of finishing below the scum but if there is just a tiny chance that it might lead to him going it would be worth it.

Only one thing is sure, I'll probably change my mind 10 times before 6.

Exactly. Despite the negatives I knew we'd never finish 6th or 'mid-table' and were always likely to sneak in 4th - even if it looked unlikely after the Spurs game.

It doesn't make us a team capable of having 26 points after 10 games of next season, or even being in genuine title contention come January. You can bet your bottom dollar we wouldn't have taken so many points if didn't desperately need to for our CL hopes.

As DB10 says chances are next year we won't get near winning the league and probably be out of touching distance with the top 3 by the time we're out of all cup competitions also but we'll probably still have enough to get 4th.
