Not investing in keepers is so short-sighted and unless you pull off a miracle will bite you on the arse for years. Instead of paying a mid-range fee on a keeper in his mid-to-late 20s that will be a great first choice keeper for 5-10 years, you can spunk away far more in transfer fees and wages on a multitude/succession of underperformers (not to mention the points and potential trophies lost).

Given or van der Sar were there to be signed for years and we just ignored them - any many would add Fridel and Schwarzer. You don't win leagues with the likes of Almunia or Fabianski as first choice and it makes my blood boil thinking how many points and games we've thrown away since about 2006 because of shit keepers.

And we went in with big bids for him too - as I recall we made a 250k bid for him in may 2011 and after having that bid rejected we returned a few months later with a new bid of......250k
