My Guess min $1 Million cash upfront !
Well, that's how it works isn't it, so hardly much of a "bet", surely? :?
And if it is $1m, then isn't that pretty good for us? - after all, that's only about £700k, whereas Denilson's contract is probably easily worth £2m+ a year (if not closer to £3m :o )
Well at most clubs yes but at Arsenal we "loan" them out year after year at a horrific loss per annum rather than bit the bullet and give them away which would look bad on those who signed them and paid them way above the market value until their contract runs out .
The announcement cleverly avoids saying we have had to weigh him off as it might highlight the lunacy of our wages system which rewards the mediocre for failure.

Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner and Santos fall into this category and there's the mercurial Ju-Young Park and the wunder kinder Ryo Maichi floating out there in Premiership limbo .

I really hope that this is true (confirmed by the club).

Denilson is a gutless individual who has summed up everything wrong about Wenger's judgement over recent years.
He is right up there, along with crap like Gervinho, vying for a place in an all time Arsenal crap 11.

Good riddance.

I'm not going to sit and try to defend Denilson but he's miles away from being included in any such 11. Wenger loved him because, initially, he kept posession VERY well. He just never got any better.

Very happy to see the back of him.

AW should have got rid sooner, before his contract renewal, as he clearly wasn't up to it, but I don't blame him for signing him. He was captain of the Brazil team he played in (I can't remember the age group) and was acclaimed during the tournament (the same one at which Senderos was voted player of the tournament).
Just shows that good young players aren't guaranteed to become good older players.

I hope that his departure along with some of the other dross we've accumulated over the years will lift some of the air of mediocrity that's been hanging over the club for years. A couple of top signings and I'll be getting all excited again, for a month or two. And then the season will start, but at least I'll have had a good Summer.

Yes we have wasted so much money in these utterly useless players. Just hope these types do not appear again next year. Although Giroud is no RVP he is also not in this list of complete and utter money grabbing useless talentless no balls or soul freaks

I could see what AW was trying to do by tying down players with potential to long term contracts. You've got to remember the two reasons why AW implemented back then:
1. Prevent departures of players Arsenal developed
2. Locking down players to relatively cheap deals to what he believed their developmental ceiling was.

I'm not saying that strategy was right, and quite honestly I'm not too sure I wouldn't of employed a different strategy given the team's circumstances back then. Like the saying goes: everyone's a genius in hindsight.

So close to being my favourite topic headline of all time.

Denilson terminated by Arsenal.

I can see Arnie knocking on his front door now in true Sarah Connor style

Denilson?

Kabooom!

Then Wenger comes hurtling through time to save the real one because one day he is destinted to lead Arsenal against the machines when football allows cyborgs to take to the field alongside humans.

The original Denilson. At one point, the most expensive player in the world.
