SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsenal could sign Cesc, Rooney, Higuin, etc, etc....But if they are not motivated or managed properly, you will still win fuck all.

look at Man Utd, Carrick, Young, Cleverly, Valencia & Welbeck not players that would wet the lips of most fans, but all have PL winners medals
It looks like you have even more money to spend:
Arsenal have further boosted their financial firepower in the transfer window by freeing up around £10m from their annual wage bill after Andrey Arshavin, 32, Denilson, 25, and Sebastien Squillaci, 32, finally ran down their contracts and were allowed to leave for nothing.

Don't worry we'll give Diaby a 4 year 80k a week extension and the status quo will continue.
Even I might get myself back on the ST list if this happens

Admit it - we were weaker once limped off against Chelsea, and the rot set in from there. Keep the faith in the Great Abou

All over Twatter that we have activated Fellaini's release clause, said to be around 24m pounds.

EDIT: Times running with the Fellaini to Arsenal story

If we finally do spend 24m and we chose to waste it all on this average clogger I'd be fucking mortified

Goal saying release clause activated, 22m pounds they reckon as we're a CL club:

He's a beast of a midfielder SteveO. He'd be bring that nastiness that we've missed since Vieira went.

Ignore the fact that the same sources have reported that we made a substantial bid for Jovetic and had tied up a deal for Cesar. They're definitely not just trying to fill column inches that are desperately empty in the absence of a major tournament and a high-profile transfer saga.

Just means that we will be matched by Utd / Chelsea and lose out.

Would love it to be so though as his no nonsense physicality is just what we need in the middle of the park, plus the hair is a nod to the bygone era of Alan Sunderland and Graham Rix :)

I don't see it at all mate, I really don't. I think he's ponderous with a second touch that's often a tackle. Not worth 24m in my opinion. Tiote would also bring nastiness and he's fucking awful as well.

Vieira turned defence to attack in the blink of an eye and was a natural leader.......two qualities that I have never seen in Fellaini.

If Lord Wenker finally does break his 20m duck I'd like to think we'd do better than this

Tiote is nowhere near the player Fellaini is. Come on, that's doing the big Belgian a massive disservice comparing him to that one-season wonder.

I think Fellaini would give great balance to our midfield that is currently full of light weight technicians. Him alongside Jack, Arteta and Santi (and even your beloved Diaby, if ever he was to return ), it would give us the best midfield in the league. Plus the bloke is a hell of a threat in the air. We would be more solid defending set pieces, and more dangerous attacking them.

Fair play you might not rate him much, but I think he would do really well for us. Let's wait and see. :)

I really like Fellaini, but wasn't he quite inconsistent towards the end of last season? I'm pretty sure Everton fans actually booed him off, on one occasion (which says something, because they're not particularly vindictive fans in that regard).

But we do need another lazy, apathetic tosspot to fill Arshavin's boots, so maybe there is some truth behind it.

Where is that coffee spit emoticon when you need it ? That rumour is absolutely hilarious and as stuart has suggested, meeting the clause or not is redundant cos if the chavs and/or manure come in for him then we wont get him anyway

Have to say steve o, that whilst he wouldnt be my first choice midfield option, he certainly would bring some positive aspects to our team. The fact that he has recently spoken publicly about preferring to play DM position only pleases me more cos for me it is the position we most need strengthening. I dont want a ball playing genius in there but want a big physical player who will break up opposition attacks and imo he can do that job.
Still like the clips of that porto DM more though tbh

Call me cynical but this is an ideal scenario for our board/manager showing intent by activating his release clause, but knowing full well that others will match it. When he chooses manure instead of us the club will trot out the same old shit about trying their best, but being unable to sign our chosen targets. Cue more cheap and shitty imports! :banghead:
