There will be no Fellaini (although I'm glad about that)....nor will there be Rooney, Jovetic, Villa, Higuain or any other big name player joining.....just as there was no Mata or Goetze. Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
As Jurgen Klopp has been put forward as an example of a good manager on this thread a question came to mind that maybe one of you better informed individuals may be able to answer:
Why, if he is so good and generates such comraderie and positive club culture and the players apparently love him as do the fans and certainly the media (ie the opposite of AW)- why are his top players moving away - Goetze/Lewandowski?
Is it purely wages?

It's a fair question to be honest, Dortmund have won 2 German league titles and reached a CL final in the last 3 years so there is certainly no trophy angle which we are constantly told (by them and their agentsfranksav63 wrote:On thr other hand Wenger never loses his best players..... I've long argued that these transfers are 99.9% about money. Do you think when these players are on the scrapheap aged 35 they're going to value a couple of bits of tin on their mantelpiece over a massive house (or 3), money in the bank and a hedge fund for their kids? Fair play imo, no matter what pay stratosphere you're in the responsibility for any working man or woman is to provide as much wonga for the family as possible. But as football fans lets not kid ourselves about all this.
Oh and should just say, as much as Swifty might try to claim this as some Wenger "win" - just because transfers are all about money doesn't make his management of the club over the last 8 years any less mediocre. Nor does it change the fact it's his wage structure that stops us paying competitive wages for top talent.
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Do you not feel that gotze's move had more to do with the size of the clubs than anything else ? Lets be honest here, dortmund are in the middle of a fabulous run that has made them a seriously respected club both domestically and on the european stage but how many expect that to last ? Could you compare them in size to a club like AFC for example ? What will happen when klopp leaves ? I know that you can argue that manure could indeed hit the skids this season after ferguscum's departure but the difference is that those cnuts will always have the ability to bounce back and will always have that superpower status to the world
This is what really gets on my tits re the akb - we were on a big club before arsehole wenker arrived (maybe not as regards european honours but a big club nonetheless) and will be a big club after he leaves and the status of our club will not hinge on him as much as dortmund's does on klopp.

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Bayern have a monopoly over the Bundesliga - and although plenty of other teams have nicked in for a title here or there, they've all faded away pretty quickly afterwards as Bayern can just flex their financial muscles and blow them out of the water.
This will be far clearer to the likes of Lewandowski and Gotze, and made painfully clearer by this season alone where Bayern stepped up a gear and pissed all over their domestic competition and basically won all their knockout ties in the first legs with 3-1, 2-0 and 4-0 victories. Add to this Guardiola being brought in and obviously being given a huge transfer budget and it's not surprising they're willing to jump ship - and that's without even bringing up their pay packet!

Funny how the Rooney carrot was dangled, rumour of a £25m + bid, then Fellaini, another rumour of triggering a £23m clause, now smoothly replaced with Nani rumours, about £9m.SteveO 35 wrote:There will be no Fellaini (although I'm glad about that)....nor will there be Rooney, Jovetic, Villa, Higuain or any other big name player joining.....just as there was no Mata or Goetze. Surplus to requirements at OT probably because of Zaha, and we fulfil both our obligations, buy cheap and do United a big favour.

Just what does Wenger think is going to happen if and when we have another season like the last 7 ! Looks very much like Koscielney will be leaving and which puts our defence back in the shit and the other clubs are going to buy big. Another question is if Spurs can keep Bale after not even getting into the Champ League why the hell are so many players looking to get out of Arsenal FC !!

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
I am sure the irony would be lost on Wenger if he thinks £15m is a fair price to let Koscielny go, yet could only go to a derisory £6m for Gary Cahill.supergeorgegraham wrote:Just what does Wenger think is going to happen if and when we have another season like the last 7 ! The way the club would see it is they can sell Kos for £15m, and replace with an £8m player. Profit is the overiding priority.
Even with the mythical £70m war chest.

Goetze said it is purely only because of Pep Guardiola

Reasons are:
1. Double in salary, at least. Goetze was around 5 Millionen Euros he will double that at Munich, so will Lewandowski
2. With Bayern they will always have a realistic title chance, domestically and also international
3. Commercial impact. Bayern has a more world wide marketing impact for the players
Also Bayerns strategy has always been to target the key players of their rival domestic clubs to weaken the other side even if the players don't make it to the starting squad. Goetze seems to be a wish player from Guardiola, so he will play I guess. Don't know about Lewandowski.
Both also missed a chance to became life long hero’s at their current club, but I guess that is a football supporters romantic view

Cheers,
Thomas
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Well Bayern's budget is the highest....around 170 Millionen Euros for the squad salary. BVB is around 60 Millionen. Bayern is even more investing with Pep coming in (reported 10 Millionen per year) and Goetze (transfer fee 37 Millionen + Salary) and the pre contract for Lewandowski and having him next year on the pay roll. On the other side Bayern generated massive income with winning three titles, including the money printing machine champions league.northbank123 wrote: Add to this Guardiola being brought in and obviously being given a huge transfer budget and it's not surprising they're willing to jump ship - and that's without even bringing up their pay packet!

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Yeah, top players generally want to make the most from their short careers, and if that means jumping ship and moving to a bigger, more successful club, then so be it. It's happened to us plenty of times in recent season, from Ashley Cole to RvP. But, of course, we can't complain as we (and all top clubs) benefit from plucking players from lesser teams all the time; there's a natural order in football, and Arsenal and Dortmund sit below Bayern, United, Barca, etc. so will always struggle to hold on to genuine world class talent.Tomáš wrote:Hi,Swifty wrote:As Jurgen Klopp has been put forward as an example of a good manager on this thread a question came to mind that maybe one of you better informed individuals may be able to answer:

The Goetze move really gets under my skin though. As a fellow football supporter, it's sickening to think that after coming through your youth ranks, he would leave so soon - and to effectively sabotage Dortmund's future chances of success by moving to Bayern, is just unbelievable. And to sign a deal when you were in the semi-finals of the CL, and likely to face Bayern in the final, was disgusting behaviour

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Didnt I hear last week that manure would have to pay extra money if they bought lewandowski cos bayern would have to get financial compensation for the pre contract agreement they have with the player ? How is that even possible ? Bayern cannot legally approach the player until next summer (jan if the player was playing in a different league) so to acknowledge a pre agreement is admitting illegally tapping up a player surely ?

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Wenger doesn't think, he knows that he will be offered a new contract with that sort of a season and so do I....sadly.....supergeorgegraham wrote:Just what does Wenger think is going to happen if and when we have another season like the last 7 ! Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Thanks Thomas et al.
Some of you guys crack me up though - ask a genuine question about Klopp and the Wenger radar goes up immediately.
From my perspective - you're a player at a good club that appears to enjoy a comraderie and fan adulation hard to match, you are in a side that is flying high and winning trophys, you have a manager that appears to be both very clever and actually human and yet good players want to leave. This is not a comparison to arsenal as the differences in most of those attributes are obvious - it was a genuine question as, for me - I'd love to be playing at a club like that.
Having said that, my current club wins lots of trophys has an awesome comraderie but has no fans or a manager - and the pay is poor so i guess Dortmund should be attractive.......
There was no - let me repeat NO - Arsene support angle in the question.
It's winter over here - not there - go and get some vitamin D you lads and cheer up.
