SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

Disagree Augie. Williams has been solid as for Swansea the past two seasons, brave and not flash. Just because he toiled for a while in lower leagues means nothing. People's percieved perception about lower leagues on here is quite staggering given some of the quality that has come out of there in recent years (Jagielka,Cahill,Lescott to name three)

I never make up false rumours but I just got told from a credible source that Higuain has already signed, that Williams has too for 8m

The only thing that sets Ashley Williams apart from the plethora of average-to-poor centre-halves knocking round at PL clubs is that he is constantly seen diving in to last-ditch tackles and blocks as a result of being a complete carthorse who is also frequently caught well out of position. If he was actually a consistent, solid centre-back nobody would be talking about a move to Arsenal or Liverpool.

On another note Reina is a player who we've often been linked to but I've never seen as a feasible signing, not least because Liverpool would always have demanded a massive fee to let a key player go. With them signing Mignolet may not be a possible option? Know he's dropped off the last season or two but at 30 and with undoubted ability seems to me like exactly the type of keeper we'd want to sign.

It would kill schezney. In all seriousness though, whilst he has great distribution he comes off as error prone to me. Cesar would be a good short term signing. I think he may be willing to play as back up to schez (I doubt AW will ever give up on schez).

If we could get his class pre-2012 form back he could be an absolute steal. Don't see Wenger going for it, rather just insulate Szczesny amongst woeful keepers. I've heard some decent things about Martinez but if his display at Reading was anything to go by then he'll fit right into the mould of goalkeeping 'competition'.

You are not making reasonable comparisons though - the point I was making is that nobody, with the exception of swansea and stockport was interested in or heard of williams prior to the last 2 seasons and that would make me suspicious of a player of his age. I dont dismiss lower leagues and actually believe that every young player should spend a season in the lower divisions to appreciate what being a pro entails, but no player of the required quality level should be toiling down there for as long as williams has

Btw can I say that I would sign lescott as a back up/rotation centre half ahead of williams

We need a few young centre halfs. All ours are are 28+

Perhaps we do for the future, but I think CB's are the players that more than most (apart from GK's) require experience to be successful. It's also worth noticing that our defenders strengths are those which do not fade so much with age compared to those defenders that rely on speed to make up for a lack of good decision making and positioning.

Agree with all your points above, hope the part you highlighted doesn't come across as disparaging to Arsenal, am just incredulous that we are (likely) signing a proper player as opposed to finding some kid in Tajikistan with 'great potential' for £96 quid instead.
