Arsenal sponsorship v Chelsea sponsorship (AKA weldone Gaz?)

Post by spendsum4uckingmoney »

So the chavs have announced there new deal today 30m a year for 10 years. Our deal is the same but for 5 years.

The media are praising Chelsea but I think our deal *may be better than the chavs. Chelski will be locked in for a whole decade. That has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are they are protected from any shocks, such as if the EPL suddenly loses popularity or they do badly. The big negative of the Chavs deal in comparison is they wont benefit if the valuation increases. We suffered hugely from our Emirates move sponsorship. We got something like 8m a year I believe in comparison to Liverfool getting 20m. Who knows maybe in 5 years the deals will be worth 40m a year. The big weakness is if we collapse and finish out the top 4 in that time.

Considering we havent won anything in 8 years it's quite remarkable our deal is worth the same as the Chavs.

To be honest this sort of headline typifies much of why I am finding modern football so banal.

Sponsorship and revenue deals, racism, players shagging each others wives and biting each other all dominate the back pages and get dragged on as "news" for weeks on end. Meanwhile the actual match reports get smaller and smaller. Players who have played poorly or put in good performances are not reported on due to the avalanche of scandal, made up transfer bullshit or the current obsession with football economics.

Yawn.

Forget about the length of the deal - manure have shown that if a better deal presents itself then they will simply buy themselves out of their existing deal. It should also be noted that our deal being shorter wont seem to be as good if we are still without trophies when our deal expires and renogotiating our next deal

Well quite. There is one beneficiary from our new sponsorship deal and that is the man who owns 67% of the club and could decide tomorrow to pay himself the entire amount as a dividend.

When I see evidence that the additional funds are being used to improve the squad I might start getting excited

£300m ten year deal, eh? Funny how we don't seem to be hearing too much from those that once claimed that Roman would get bored with his 'plaything' and soon move on to pastures new and that once he did, Chelsea would revert to being the small-time club they have almost always been. :rubchin: :rubchin:

Even if he does eventually end up 'moving on' he has put in place a world class infrastructure both on and off the field and with all the trophies won (and wide-wide fan base gained off the back of that) there is no way Chelsea will be going back to being the fourth biggest club in London any time in the foreseeable and medium term future. :banghead: :banghead:

Yeah, it certainly is sad that they got a billionaire who planned to stick around. I fear Citeh have done likewise :(

If I'm honest though, despite how unwelcome, unsportmanlike and cancerous their "projects" have been on the sport we all love, I'm just glad Sp*rs haven't gone that way yet... although I fear it's only a matter of time :o :(

Yeah, it certainly is sad to see that they got a billionaire who - unlike ours - planned to spend some of his money. I fear Citeh have done likewise :(

£300M for ten years?

Nothing great about that really.

It's not an outstanding amount of money considering the length of the deal.
