SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Interestingly Hugain enjoyed his most successful season (27 goals in 28 starts) when Pellegrini was in charge of Real Madrid. If Man City comes in for Hugain, we stand no chance. Despite that, I'm still confident we'll sign him.

With Juve seemingly out of the picture having signed Trevez ,we will go back to low balling Madrid thinking we are the only game in town ,Madrid will be happy to stall hoping that they can drum up another bidder.
Madrid are hoping for more than $25 million for Higuain , a sum we know we wont pay so we all sit back and see if someone takes him from under out noses.

Still keep up the negotiations Dick. I'm sure we've been very close for a month now before we move on to the lad from St Etienne

And only a fool would dismiss that possibility - it seems that there is a very real possibility that dzeko too could be departing from citeeh and if so then they will be in the market for one if not two strikers. By all accounts they have ruled out signing cavani cos the price is too high and if dortmund stand strong over lewandowski then what possibilities apart from higuain does that leave for them ? Of course if that should play out then we can console ourselves with the fact that we cannot compete with the mega money/artificial wealth etc etc etc  :blah: :blah:
If we genuinely want higuain or any top player then we simply need to get in early and do our buying before everybody else cos to wait for the big guns to enter the market is negligible to say the least - people can indeed point out that it is only june and the transfer window doesnt officially open for another week but the fact is that we are in a race with our rivals and it is that and not the calender that should be influencing our actions

Possibly waiting to see if the deadwood can be cast aside before buying ?
Don't forget we have "two players for every position" - trouble is half of them are shite on huge wages
A foolish ploy, that will see us with our fingers burnt AGAIN.

If opinions on here were shared by these players then it's no wonder they don't sign for us at the drop of a hat. People saying Wenger is crazy and the club is a non-trophy winning, money tight, shambles - why do you therefore expect top quality players to be interested?

This talk of "doing business early" isn't always realistic. Yes Chelsea and City have signed a couple of players but they've thrown a LOT of money straight at them - we know money is no object so i'm not sure they should be compared to Arsenal. Throwing Liverpool in as an example is even worse. Remember the great signings they made "early" in summer of 2011? the great Downing-Henderson-Adam £50M trio.

Also all the negativity is based on speculation that they've made up. Who says City want him? Nobody. It's a theory. Maybe it'll happen, but getting worked up about something you have yourself created seems rather like self abuse

The same way as it is only a theory that wenker will spend big this summer. The bottom line, as I stated above, is that it doesn't matter whether we are after higuain or not.......what matters is that by now we should have realistic targets on our shopping list and we need to be getting these players signed up asap. Maybe we are not shopping in the same aisle as citeeh, the chavs etc but we will be shopping in the same aisle as several similar sized clubs as ourselves so presumably we will have similar transfer targets - do we want or need to get dragged into auctions ? We are told that we have big funds at our disposal so get in there and spend it now whilst we still have a decent list of available players and if we have to pay a small bit extra to clinch those deals now then so be it

"Arsenal have put together a package to lure Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, 27, to the Emirates. The club's hierarchy believe a signing such as Rooney will help persuade manager Arsene Wenger to sign a contract extension. "

Andrey Arshavin left for return to Zenit St. Petersburg?!

Kicker reporting he is back....
http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bund ... markt.html

Saying that he never got happy in London :o  :blah:

Cheers,
Thomas
