SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Glad you've managed to stop wanking obsessively to Geoff_Arsenal's Twitter to peruse the forum :barscarf:

You never know, may have been basically tied up for a few days and just a case of confirmation but I don't think it's irrational to get worried about someone coming in and hijacking the deal.
this is it.

juve sign tevez, our expert negotiators see our only widely reported compeition for higuain are out of the race, so they then try to lowball madrid, this will drag on and on until someone willing to pay the the extra couple of million quid comes in for him. same old same old, read alonso, mata etc etc. this club is and will remain rotten.
You have no evidence whatsoever to go on for your conclusion. Give us a link, source, anything... any sort of information to back up this claim if you will? For all we know, we might already have this in the bag. I could go the other extreme and say the only thing remaining is for him to get through his medical. Do I have any evidence for this claim? No, but neither do you. Signing players is not like going to the supermarket and buying stuff. It takes time. £20m odd is being exchanged hands here, and we're not a club who can just throw money around.

Baseless negativity, very annoying.
baseless negativity based on the past expereince of the last umpteen years. unlike u i dont beleive every half baked source of team talk or the unreliable print media as my basis for signings and cream my pannts on the back of said BS reports as im not a a, naive or b, 12 years old.

my opinion is based on whats happened in the past with the examples i quoted, and the fact that our transfers always drag on and on.
So you reckon the BBC are unreliable too? What news source do you trust then out of interest?

Or do you need a credible source like goal.com, caughtoffside or "some bloke off Twitter" for it to be a credible suggestion?
It doesn't always come down it being about haggling over fees though. You can't assume that just because a transfer seems protracted that it must be because we're trying to lowball the selling club. There are recent examples of when we wrapped up deals swiftly too, like Podolski and Giroud last summer. The Cazorla deal took a bit longer but we still nabbed him. It seems to me that people are too scarred by the Mata failure and that is causing them to feel negatively about any transfer for a top player that seems to be dragging out. But it's not like we always lose out at the final hurdle on players. The Mata thing was an exception rather the norm. It's understandable to be a bit cynical due to that, but it's being overstated imo.

Anyway, now for some good news:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... Cesar.html

Cesar to replace Mannone? Would be an instant upgrade in the goalkeeping department.

To be honest 1989 I have always found the BBC to be playing catch up and only report stories that have already broken elsewhere. :D
And for what its worth I wouldn't trust any media outlet!

I see so you're the old-fashioned type who will believe it "when he's holding up the shirt with his face plastered all over the official website"? Fair enough I suppose. :D

Happy enough if this is true. Cesar would be more than a decent signing to keep young Chesney in check, whilst I'd be in fucking tears if we finally broke the 20m mark to sign the one paced wonder from Everton. Williams isn't worth 10m either and I don't see how he'd improve the team - no better than either Vermaelen or Koscielny in my book

The £20m mark will be broken for Higuain.

Agree about Williams, but we could definitely use Fellaini since your favorite Frenchman needs replacing.

Mate, I sincerely hope you're not about to join Sammy's list of 'done deals'. Old Aubreymathingymajig will be our new man from St Etienne. Higgy will join our other virtual signings Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, YaYa Toure and Mata

We've got our own £20m+ man in the Great Abou :barscarf:

Unlike Sammy I'm yet to get anyone wrong.

Higgy's a Gooner. Mark my words. 8)

Personally, and I kid you not when I say this, but I am still scarred by the kluivert saga all those years ago when he was 100% certain to sign for us - to this day the missus still gives me abuse over that story everytime a fcuking transfer window opens :(

On a more recent story I think the one that scarred me most was the schwarzer bid a couple of years ago - how embarassing was it as an Arsenal supporter to watch your team make a derisory bid for the guy that was dismissed by fulham only then to see us go back in with the very same bid just a couple of months later ?   For me it made us a laughing stock and it was even more annoying cos 99% of Gooners at that time were begging for a new keeper to oust below average al from number 1 choice but yet the most we could spring for was 250k ??? This, correct me if I'm wrong, was in the same summer that we gave out new deals to the worlds greatest danish striker, denilson and flaps to name but 3

Why is everybody on the neck off Williams? i would have him. Proven in the PL, and he is good in the air.

Should easily replace Verminator(sad enough). I admit Williams is not the best player with his feet, but he manage to hit Van Pervert on the head!!!!
