We can't complete a signing quickly unless it's for some kid we are paying an extortionate sum for and a number of other signings Wenger has made are so shite they are sent out on loan until their contracts are up with us paying most of their extortionate wages, sanctioned by Wenger, until they leave on a free. This is the 'business model' they want to employ?
Not a chance of success with the fools in charge of our team/club.
We've made plenty of mistakes, no doubt about it. To talk like somehow we're the only team that does is fucking mental. Look at the players City & Chelsea have been through over the last few years, squad fulls of the bastards. The only difference is that they can afford to make mistakes - we can't.
erm...... the only difference is Chelsea and city have trophy cabinets brimming with silverware despite all the dick head signings :?
:?: :?: I think you missed my point.
my point is that I don't think we'd care if we'd bought an abundance of useless toss pieces so long as it had been amongst world class signings ala chavski and city, unfortunately we have only signed junk largely the past 8 years :(

I see that Mark Schwarzer has been released by Fulham, it wouldn't surprise me if the penny pinching, dithering old bastard went back in for him!

Jack Wilshere: If Arsenal sign Wayne Rooney then teams would fear us

Jack Wilshere believes that if Arsenal were to sign his England team-mate Wayne Rooney from Manchester United it would be a virtual guarantee of winning something.

"If it [signing Rooney] happens, it would be amazing," Wilshere said. "He is the type of player who can win you trophies – and just to see his name on the team sheet brings fear to the opposition. We could do with a little more of that."

Arsenal, with £75m available to spend this summer, are also interested in signing Real Madrid's £25m-rated forward Gonzalo Higuaín and the Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini who would, like Rooney, both command significant transfer fees and wages.

Wilshere, 21, believes the calibre of players now likely to be brought in by Arsenal shows they mean business on the pitch.

"You look at the type of players like Higuaín we are trying to bring in and you have got to be encouraged," Wilshere told espnfc.com.

"I think we need a few more, not to step right into the team, but to add to the squad. We need our squad to be as deep as United's and [Manchester] City's. They can change their back four completely and still win. There is no way United would have won the Premier League trophy with 18 players."

"It is no secret we need to win a trophy. How long has it been now, seven or eight years? The players feel the pressure and we have gotten close a few times like with the Carling Cup a couple of years ago. I think once we win one, others will follow."

Arsenal have already allowed Andrey Arshavin to return Zenit St Petersburg after his contract expired, and the Brazilian midfielder Denílson and the French centre-back Sébastien Squillaci are also out of contract and will depart.

More funds will be freed up by the departure of other fringe players such as the Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner, the Swiss defender Johan Djourou and the Morocco forward Marouane Chamakh.

Poor old Jack sounds as deluded as Wenger, of course we need players to STEP straight into the team otherwise it won't be stronger, our first best 11 is still not good enough to win the league

What i'm saying is that City, for example, can spend:

£20M on Jo
£20M on Santa Cruz
£32M on Robinho
£25M on Adebayor
£15M on Rodwell

If they fail they go out and buy another player to replace each of them. Like I said in my first post, they can afford to make these mistakes. 50K or 60K a week on Denilson is nothing at all compared to the players I listed.

The difference? City can afford it. They can buy more and more until they get the right result. Rodwell aside, City got back about £20M for the other 4 players.

Wouldn't it have been awesome if during that infamous phone conversation between wenger and fergie last summer, that secured rvp's transfer to them, that wenger said something like, "okay, you can have robin, if you let me have rooney if you win the league?". Do I think we'll sign him- no. Probably end up with Nani. But wouldn't it be good to know that arsene didn't fold as easily as its being suggested?
If we do add Higuain, Cesar plus Rooney, Micah Richards and the return of Cesc, that will be the best summer since 2001. Just hope rooney is slightly more successful than the last bluenose scouser we signed.

Tbh I would be shocked if we didn't sign him - whether schwarzer would want to play under a manager who only valued him at 250k two years ago is another story  If you were schwarzer would you want to bow out mostly sitting on the bench at a club like AFC or would you rather step down a level or two and be playing regularly ?

Agreed... It would be just so typical of the current regime to save a couple of million by signing Schwarzer instead of Cesar. :banghead:
