SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Is anyone else concerned that the Guardian (and others) are claiming Higuain has signed a "three-year deal" with us? The guy is only 25. If the reports are true, it will take some gloss off this signing.

You've nothing to regret mate, it's only goal.com  ...........spare a thought for Herd though. [
You seem to think I would not welcome a player like him who might improve our tea which is completely wrong .
One thing is for sure we have been haggling hard and using the media to play with Real and have only paid the money at the last possible moment.

During this time we have left ourselves wide open to someone like City coming in and taking him .

Even an astute media analyst like u can understand that ..........mmmm perhaps not.

Somethings never change Coq out on loan WTF he's better than Barry !

Erm.....what? How did you come to that conclusion?

I have got no issues with you other than your incessant desire to put a negative spin on things when there's little to no foundation for your doom mongering (quoting goal.com as a trustworthy and reputable source, wtf?).

As I mentioned in my earlier post, if goal reported that Higuain has signed for Arsenal, you'd NEVER have quoted it, much less believed it. If anything, you'd laugh off the source and dismiss it right out of hand.

Stop worrying about City. There are no reports whatsoever linking them with Higuain so I'm not sure why you're doing this to yourself exactly. They've all but signed Negredo anyway, who's of similar mould to Higuain.

The Mata debacle was depressing, we all agree, but there's no point bringing it up over and over again whenever you feel a deal might have stalled. We got Cazorla just fine last year, a player every inch as good as Mata, and we never got beaten to him did we. Sometimes you miss out on players even when it seems a done deal. It happens to all clubs and not just us so a bit of perspective please.

Astute media analyst? Been called worse.

Neymar and Pique praising Rooney:

Man United's Wayne Rooney encouraged by Neymar to join Barcelona
Wayne Rooney transfer from Manchester United to Barcelona backed by pal Gerard Pique

I can't see Barcelona going for Rooney but there must be a reason for these remarks. Barcelona used similar methods before signing Henry (tapping up done by Eto'o and Ronaldinho) and Fabregas (tapping up done by Xavi, Pique and others). Due to that, I wonder if the Barcelona bosses have instructed Neymar and Pique to say what they said.

Arsenal Football Club WAS about class mate but now it is just about profits as shown up by our changing our traditional crest (for copyright/financial reasons) and suing a hat shop woman (in spain  ) for not changing the name of her shop

The problem with Suarez is that despite his talent, he is a huge liability. Say if we did sign Higgy, Suarez, Felliani/Bender and Ceaser and we're challenging for the title and/or cups and he does something utterly stupid that causes the media to highlight it. The focus will be on him, it will be a huge distraction.

I don't think our black players will be too happy knowing they share a dressing room with an open racist either.

We have more chance of signing Rooney than Suarez.

This I agree with, I'd rather he be on a four year deal. Then again, it could be a three year deal with an option for a fourth.

Like when our Captain ploughed a car into a house pissed off his nut? Or when PV spat at Neil Ruddock? Or when Merson was coked and pissed off his head for 4 years? Or when David Hillier stole someones luggage?

We're hardly whiter than white as a football club pal

By and large I agree with what you are saying but the big difference is that the players you mention had all played for a number of years and had served us well (with the exception of hillier of course) so had done more than enough in our colours to warrant some goodwill from Gooners. Now you can argue over whether players should be allowed pretty much a free pass just cos they had been good players but that is a question for society really and as in society we Gooners are more likely to be protective of others in our (Gooner) family 8)
