SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Various newspapers this morning saying that Higuain is just about to/has arrived to finalise his deal with us:

"Gonzalo Higuain is set to complete his £22m move to Arsenal over the next 48 hours" - Daily Mail

"Gonzalo Higuain has flown into London to sign a deal worth £100,000 a week" - Daily Express

"Arsenal last night were finalising negotiations with Higuain" - Daily Telegraph

"Gonzalo Higuain is on the brink of joining Arsenal" - Daily Star

Can we just get this :censored: deal done :cussing:

Seems odd that, seeing as if you read the english version of the site via Google, they've written a stroy about a poll with Real fans and how they want more attacking line ups and none of the players listed is Higuain.

Might be mischief making but to what end.

Shame about Coquelin leaving, always thought he was a decent squad player.

Got a sneeky feeling Fellaini will be joining us pretty soon Martinez is talking about keeping Baines nothing of Fellaini .

Also if you look at our squad with all the loans going out and releases and the deadwood we are looking very thin I say we will have 4-5 players coming in this transfer window

now i know we have a lot of crud in our squad and we have to get shot of them. even so we always lose around twice as many players as we bring in. bearing in mind up to 10 are going that points to 5 coming in. thats quite a leap of faith mind you with our tight arse manager and board.

cesar and higuain yes.

think feilani is too pricey although he would be an excellent addition.

SSN Paulinho having medical at the spuds, looks a good player from highlights I've seen of him, madrid and inter were both after him too, seen his interview and he was adamant about joining those lot, so you can attract good players with no cl

Mate he tried to whore himself out by announcing Spurs' interest in him during the Confederations Cup and saying he was going to make a decision in a week or two. If that's not a blatant "come and get me" ploy to bigger clubs I don't know what is. He was only adamant on signing for them once it became clear nobody else was actually going to buy him.

Only seen small bits and pieces of him, not enough to make a fair judgement. I'm sure he's not a mug but equally I'm not worried about it, and signing a player from the Brazilian pub league is always going to be a risk.

favourite rumour so far .

Reports in Spain claim that Levante would be willing to offer Marouane Chamakh a route out of Arsenal. They are looking to take the striker on loan for the final year of his Gunners contract.

But this is not looking good .

Marca: Real Madrid are not willing to sell Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain for €27million (£23.2m) and will only let him leave for a mega offer.

Must admint Marca have have talked shit about this transfer from day 1

Exactly. Didn't they essentially confirm the deal about a fortnight ago? Either we've literally been conducting this transfer in reverse, or more likely the Spanish papers are not particularly different from the British papers.

By and large I agree with what you are saying but the big difference is that the players you mention had all played for a number of years and had served us well (with the exception of hillier of course) so had done more than enough in our colours to warrant some goodwill from Gooners. Now you can argue over whether players should be allowed pretty much a free pass just cos they had been good players but that is a question for society really and as in society we Gooners are more likely to be protective of others in our (Gooner) family
I know what you're saying, and I agree really. Just raising a point to the people getting on their high horse about 'class'
I would take Suarez, he's brilliant.

I would say, as they're a Madrid paper, they are trying to spin this quite a bit. He's a top player, maybe this is to soften the blow? I cannot believe, with this much talk about it, that it wont happen.

I dont want that fucking twat anywhere near our football club. Arsenal is about class, why would we want vermin like that playing for us. Higuain please.
I despise him! To be fair, you can be dirty on Wenger about a lot of things but one thing you can count on is this kind of bloke doesn't get to wear Arsenal kit and you can't say many clubs would have those principles.
Ps if we sign him then I'm burning everything I own of Arsenal.

One thing for sure, if Wenger can't land Higuain then he isn't the man for the club. All credit for getting us fine with our piggy bank but you have to be able to land a big fish once you've finally got the rig to do it.
