Great old pictures

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Great photos.

Wonderfully named David Herd, and remember Derek Tapscott from the Highbury parade at the last game vs Wigan.

Still love that image - great day at Wembley fucking up Ian Rush's famous record and seeing us win a real trophy against the team of the day. Still it'll never surpass the scenes of wild celebration at Newcastle in May of course

It's a great post Henry Norris , it also shows us that there once was an Arsenal . Since 2006 that Arsenal has been eroded in front of our eyes. But let's not complain, we must be careful what we wish for.

Great post. We are lamenting the past without realising we are The Arsenal, that we are still that club. We are still the club people look at as an example to follow. We may not have liked the last 6 years but any club that is looking to move or redevelop their ground are turning towards The Arsenal financial model of taking the cost of a new/ redeveloped stadium without going into administration. We are a leading example of a modern sports corporation in the 21 Century. We haven't relied on a "sugar daddy" like citeh, chavski, etc... despite having two billionaires as the two majority shareholders. I would like to believe that they are our back up plan for when Uefa financial fair play gets disbanded. We are The Arsenal, we are the best, we are The Arsenal, so fuck all the rest...

That might be true and I'm sure you believe that but we all know that when you were at Highbury you were part of a tight group of fans who were there because the club was everything to them. You would be there come rain or shine to support the club and the players gave you something back. These days, football in general, not just Arsenal, is a money making monster that doesn't really give a toss about the fans anymore. In fact, fans is the wrong word, to them we're just customers.
So when I look at pics like these, it just takes you back to a time when it really was a different experience, something you lived for and When Saturday Comes was what it was all about. Success was secondary to the feeling of being part of a special place, special club and fans who you really felt you knew every week.
I NEVER get bored of looking at photos like these. They bring back so many fantastic memories. :barscarf:

100 years since the first game at Highbury so I thought this thread deserves to be bumped.
