SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Noth that I think it is actually gonna happen, but I would be delighted if we signed Suarez.

The guy is an absolute scumbag, with a real 'win at all costs' attitude ; the exact opposite of the 'too nice- too soft- cowardly-mentally weak' players we have been watching for the previous five seasons.

Which of our players do opposition players love to hate? Nobody, because the vast majority have made almost zero mark on English football.

More hated, nasty bastards ; that's what we need. Think of Wrighty running the gauntlet at the Old Den, or Sol sliding into a challenge in front of The Shelf, or Keown and the 'monkey jump' at the battle of Old Trafford. I want to see oppostion fans whipped up into a boggle eyed vein popping frenzy by our best players ; because these are the kind of players that help Arsenal win trophies.

Cook I understand the premise but the likes of Wrighty and Keown had mean streaks stemming from their pure desire to win - even if it came across in a spiteful manner.

Suarez has a mean streak originating from him being a huge bell-end. He didn't bite that bloke for Ajax out of will to win, he didn't bite Ivanovic out of a will to win, he didn't racially abuse Evra out of a will to win. He did it because he's a petulant wanker. I might be able to listen a bit more to how much of an inherent 'winner' he is if he actually hands in a transfer request at Anfield instead of sticking round at a mid-table club out of nothing more than his wallet and enjoying being a big fish in a small pond.

Mate, the suarez transfer is a non story. Do you think Wenger would really touch him?
Same as Rooney coming to Arsenal. I don't believe he would give Arsenal a serious thought. (Years of under investment putting paid to that)
Same with Fellaini, that story has never really got off of the ground. And as for Higuain, how long has that one been rumbling on for now?
Come the start of the season, they can tell us how they tried to bring players in, couldn't for whtever reason and how they needed to be better than what we have.
Deja Vu????

I did say in the the opening to my post that I do not think we are gonna sign him ; The subsequent points were about the type of player that Suarez is and how I think we need a couple like that in the team.

How does it flush Madrid out? If anything it shows the money is there to pay what they want.

It's just another low bid to show the gormless that the club are 'trying'
it flushes RealMadrid out because they want money in so they can do their business
whoever the latest Pres is would rather spend transfer proceeds than dip into existing funds or (nightmare) dip his hand in his own pocket. Don't RealMadrid have an interest in Suarez themsleves?
If they play hardball on Higgy we can retaliate by bidding Suarez up...

Where's the coffee spit emoticon when you need it, the only danger I can see to us ''Bidding Suarez up'' is if the bid got accepted... then we'll see ourselves back peddling big style.. these so called bids are nothing but spurious in my opinion

I totally agree with Cook on this one, all our mentally weak players want to do is swap shirts, laughter and, I bet in the dressing room later on, spit...

I cannot stand the geezer at all levels. Do we really want someone who is a proven racist and blatantly thinks its ok to bite another players arm in full glare of the tv cameras. Then starts crying when a club with values like pool distance themselves from him. This is Arsenal not some small time small minded football club.

We do things with class, suarez is anything but.

Are you having a fcuking laff ? These c***s didn't distance themselves from suarez over the racist incident and actually went so far OTT in their defence of him that I would be embarrassed until the day I die if I was a victim's fan
If the victims are such a classy club then why are they still standing by him ? The fact that he racially abused a guy was bad enough but then to nibble at ivanovic's arm as well .... The 2nd incident on it's own wasn't a huge issue imo but coming after the racist incident should have seen him out the door...if they were the classy club you suggest they are

Agree with Augie. Handling was a complete disgrace and in fact a really worryingly large proportion of Liverpool fans actually still believe that he's no worse than most footballers and it's just a media campaign. The club's name has been completely tarnished by his behaviour and their subsequent reactions.

The reality is Dalglish would still be stubbornly banging on about the Evra incident as manager of Liverpool if the owners didn't intervene once they started receiving bad press in America, the market they've been targeting with their Warrior kit deal, pre-season tour and that laughable TV programme.

Fair enough so why do we want damaged goods at our gaff, he'll only be trouble in wengers laid back regime. BBC have confirmed we made a bid for £30m for him and pool said no. Suggests that Higuain is off.

I'm not here to argue with other gooners, just totally fustrated after all the sounds we get from the board every summer that nothing happens.

Interesting that we've bid for him but worried about what this says about the Higuain 'deal'

Reports now seem to think that Ancelotti is insisting on sitting down with Higuain on the first day of their pre-season next Monday. Who fucking knows what's happening, to be fair to the Spanish papers (AS and Marca seem to keep cropping up) they've printed so many varying stories that one of them has to have been true at one point!

If there is any truth to both of these reports then it's an embarrassing stand-off by both clubs trying to force each other's hand.

At the risk of sounding like the BBQ king (steve o  ), I am not worried about the higuain deal cos I'm not sure that I ever believed that we would buy him. This summer has all the makings of another transfer window shambles for AFC - appear to be after everybody, get caught up trying to negotiate 3 or 4 deals at the one time and then watch is our alleged targets get picked up one by one by the other clubs  When that happens we will hear the c**ts running our club spout dogshite about trying to sign some of the worlds best players and how that showed the ambitions/intent/wealth of the club all the while depending on an injury prone 2nd division rookie from france  :x
