As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fair points mate and its an interesting question to ask what went wrong (in the league) when we had those players. Personally I would say the centre of our midfield wasn't anywhere near good enough in the time between Rocastle and Thomas leaving and Vieira joining. Graham was to blame for that and it shows how crucial midfield is.
Also regarding our league positions, I wonder if they would have been the same if teams were rewarded with CL football like they are now. Perhaps there was an element of letting places slip towards the end of the season because we were still in the cups? And that led to some misleading final positions? I don't know, maybe that's an excuse.
But as much as the word legend is overused, time has show that a lot of the players Wenger inherited either were Arsenal legends when he came or were on their way to becoming legends ... so there was a strong foundation to work with, even if it wasn't a complete team.
PS And I did mention Ian Wright (missed out the word 'of' after ruthlessness though)
No,I agree with that - if the 4th place trophy was around, we probably would have done better in the league as, yes, I think we did let the league slip in favour of our cup commitments. Sadly, the opposite is true these days and we'd happily sacrifice a cup for a chance at clinching 4th place
Even so, a team with the players you listed (including Wrighty, my mistake ) should surely have been competing higher up. But yes, the midfield wasn't up to scratch which is probably why seeing Vieira come on for his debut against Sheff Wed was such a revelation and has always stuck in my mind
I also think the managerial situation had a huge impact. 1994/95 was turmoil with Graham and the bung... then it was Houston, then Rioch. I think the arrival of Wenger changed everything and gave the club a lift... hmm, perhaps we've gone full circle and Wenger will need to be replaced to breathe new life into the Arsenal?
He must be leaving soon surely. Worst part is that Spurs manage to keep hold of Bale and they are not in the Champ League. What does that tell you about RVP decision to leave and we were in the Champ League. Also RVP mentioned how much better the players were in that squad and how good Ferguson was.

ONE ARSENE WENGER......THERE'S ONLY ONE ARSENE WENGER
No, no you can't.
This thread touching 300 pages and not a sniff of a transfer apart from Diaby Lite. What a sorry state of affairs. And with Turnip and the rest of the Garden Gang off on a jolly to Aisa it's about time to write off another season. 2013-14 au revoir.
Dun you just love Arsene Wenger. After 8 yrs of winning nothing he is still not panicking, putting up a brave front and still taking his own sweet time looking for new players. He still dun give a damn about how the fans feel despite more and more are turning against him. He still have the cheek to tell us 3th place is like a trophy and getting us into CL every season is an achievement. After all these how can you not love Arsene Wenger? Chant with me people. There's only one Arsene wenger, one Arsene wenger!!!
The worst thing is I reckon we will spend, but simply not enough to win us anything. We will probably end up spending about 20m or 30m Net, with maybe one playing being sold. Maybe Vermaelen will go, as he wont fancy sitting on the bench presuming Wenger sticks with BFG and Koscielny.
So we will bring in maybe two decent players, and a couple of cheapos, with probably one decent player departing, as well as a bunch of deadwood. So overall, there will be a minor improvement in the overall quality of the squad, and Wenger and Gazidis will say Look We Spent 20m or 30m net, and the deluded fucks among the fanbase will say Hurrah! Told ya so!
Then we will trot in once again in 3rd or 4th place behind the teams who happily throw 30million or 40million, or whatever they can reasonable afford to gamble every season on a couple of finished articles. We on the other hand will finish empty handed once again, except with more in the piggy bank to "safeguard" against another year of possile faillure next year. No big balls going all out for glory for us. But of course the deluded among the fanbase wont mind a bit. Quite the opposite, they will be delighted, saying we spent all we had but we just cant compete, when of course we all know full well that there must easily be another 50million that could have been spent and potentially brought us a trophy, 50million quid just sitting there wondering no doubt "why am i here?". But whats a trophy against 4th place and money left in the piggy bank to safeguard against the doomsday scenario of failing to finish 4th?
Why don't they support their local leagues & clubs? What a bunch of brainwashed twats, the types that get excited about Beckham turning up at a book signing
The clubs PR have an easy job selling shite to these morons, didn't Wenger say he would like to bring them all over to England, they could replace all the club's traditional core supporters? As if that hasn't happened already
AFC Arsenal now!!!! Fuck off Wenger Gazidis & Kroenke
Not sure they get that much for touring - certainly less than the income from one home match - but they obviously hope to cash in on the merchandise they sell/new local sponsors they might pick up and fans they get to become a member.

Considering the amount of overseas fans we have just on this board I reckon that's a bit harsh.

Wenger: "I am committed to staying longer at this club. I’ve already had a chat with Ivan. It went very well"
Oh dear god. This is horrifying news.
