Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
The summer of 2011 was waaaay fucking worse. That being said i'm actually suprised we haven't done anything. Even by our own incompetent and unambitious standards this is poor.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
yes definitely,i mean he was only our top scorer with 19 goals and 11 assists,a total waste of space, are you kidding??and like already mentioned if he was for sale there'd be no end of takers.for all Wallys failings and god there are quite a few you cant criticise him at the end where it counts,in the final third he is very very effective,a proven finisherfranksav63 wrote:Exactly, a waste of money and a waste of skin!!!!defleppardisking wrote:Walcott is a waste of money. Never was good enough and never will be. The reason why he signed a new contract is because there are no big club coming in for him.

If Walcott's a waste of space I'm curious to know what you make of the likes of Park and Bendtner.

Yeah in the grand scheme of things obviously not making signings when we were losing Fabregas and Nasri was probably the worst window we've had. But without the complaint of financial constraints and without the excuse that we were dedicated to trying to keep players, if our recent inactivity continues it will be even more baffling.spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:The summer of 2011 was waaaay fucking worse. I can see us waiting until we ship out all the deadwood possible before the accountants start assessing how much we can afford in fees and wages. Then doing nothing.

Park was dreadful, inexplicably bad signing. Was essentially a miracle vanStaplecunt stayed fit all season
Santos only marginally better. Couldn't really defend was an embarrassment at times but scored an important goal v Wigan
Yossi did a job
and I see Arteta and Mertesacker as great signings: established top level players as opposed to 'potential'
we'd also players signed the 'replacements' before:
Gervinho (lets hope we can get our money back) and
Ox I believe he'll overcome last season's 'difficult second album' and be a top player

You won't convince me pal, Wally Walcott can't control or cross a ball, I'd be interested to see who he scored those 19 goals against.... anyway, I can't stand him and it saddens me to see him in an Arsenal shirt but I can probably say that about 15-16 others in the squad, all phish, mentally weak and have a losers yellow streak running through them!markyp wrote:yes definitely,i mean he was only our top scorer with 19 goals and 11 assists,a total waste of space, are you kidding??and like already mentioned if he was for sale there'd be no end of takers.for all Wallys failings and god there are quite a few you cant criticise him at the end where it counts,in the final third he is very very effective,a proven finisherfranksav63 wrote:Exactly, a waste of money and a waste of skin!!!!defleppardisking wrote:Walcott is a waste of money. It wasnt just who he scored them against frank, but WHEN he scored them - a breakdown of his goals was done towards the end of last season and it showed that the vast majority of them came in the last 15 minutes of games and most of them came when the team was already 2 or 3 goals up. I know that all goals are important goals but those goals have confirmed what we have all said for a long time and that is that wally is only effective being played in the last 15-20mins of games when the opposition team are knackered - 100k per week is a lot for 20 mins of football

Of course I agree Augie... it just shows how far we've fallen when some fans can hail a no trick pony like Wally!!!augie wrote:It wasnt just who he scored them against frank, but WHEN he scored them - a breakdown of his goals was done towards the end of last season and it showed that the vast majority of them came in the last 15 minutes of games and most of them came when the team was already 2 or 3 goals up. Walcott has been with us a long time and seems a nice ladfranksav63 wrote:Of course I agree Augie... it just shows how far we've fallen when some fans can hail a no trick pony like Wally!!!augie wrote:It wasnt just who he scored them against frank, but WHEN he scored them - a breakdown of his goals was done towards the end of last season and it showed that the vast majority of them came in the last 15 minutes of games and most of them came when the team was already 2 or 3 goals up. think it sent the wrong message losing him - £100k per week is prob 10-15% too much
sadly, the fact he's our most recognisable/marketable player accounts for a chunk of that value
Feo is a big game player - those are the games he steps up in
the start of his career was up and down but in each of the last two seasons he has improved
of course Frank's right that he's not Bergkamp/Henry quality
but in world football, looking beyond unsignable Messi/Ronaldo, nobody is

So why didnt they then? Any club could have got him last summer when his contract was going into his final year. They didntcameron326 wrote:A bit harsh on Walnut. Used other clubs interest to leverage his wages.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
I was more referring to the part where we blithely sailed through the summer months not signing players despite the fact it must have been abundantly clear to the club, as it was to most of us, that both Fabregas and Nasri were departing. After pocketing £55-60m in sales from those two players, had we conducted our transfer business sensibly and with the necessary foresight we could have brought in a few very good players. As it was, we ended up with:highburyJD wrote:but we did make signingsnorthbank123 wrote:Yeah in the grand scheme of things obviously not making signings when we were losing Fabregas and Nasri was probably the worst window we've had. we'd also players signed the 'replacements' before:
Gervinho (lets hope we can get our money back) and
Ox I believe he'll overcome last season's 'difficult second album' and be a top player
Arteta (big fan of his, extremely consistent and an important player although in no way a replacement regarding creativity)
Mertesacker (looked more settled last season but has looked at sea for much of his career and arguably still only in the side because our captain is a bit of a donkey)
Santos (no description required)
Park (without exaggeration by far the worst player I've ever seen wear our shirt)
Benayoun (decent player but not remotely match fit until about March)
All this to add to a truly woeful winger in Gervinho who continues to plague us, and in Ox a player with huge potential but who was never going to be first-team regular that year. Yes, we brought in signings eventually but had we not been forced into shopping in the bargain bin in the last 2 days of the window (by which time we'd already shipped in 8 to United) then we could have brought in far better players. Should have been a lesson to us burying our heads in the sand.
I remember a SSN reporter at Arsenal's offices on deadline day, and even though we were trying to tie up a few deals he reckoned that our legal and financial staff spent the vast majority of the day desperately trying to sort out loan deals for shit players like Bendtner.
