THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Call me a cynic but still l still highly suspect we will splash the cash on ONE big signing. Why? Well, not to compete at he top of course - a single big name will merely keep us in the running for 4th. No, a single big name player - one that must be young enough to have at least some potential resell value - will likely be signed because it makes financial sense:

First rekindle the interest enough to sell a few thousand extra tickets each home game for a season or two - thats 10 million or so right there. Boost worlide shirt sales and merchandise -another million plus potentially. And then can of course sell him on for a decentish fee after r a couple of seasons. Result: domestic fanbase satiated. Global fanbase kept interested. Top 4 achieved again. No harm to the bottom line.

I used to work with this bloke. Nice guy, but total AKB. Apparently Wenger getting a contract extension is on a par with the birth of family members
Stalin and Kim Jong-il themselves would be envious of Wenger's cult of personality

I hate some of the comments i'm seeing today from the AKB's, saying that "he deserves to stay here forever as he has consistently got us into the top four". Who gives a fcuk about fourth place? When watching the F1, do you care who finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th? When watching the 100m, do you care who else finished in the top 4 other than the winner? Of course you don't, winning's all that matters in sport.
Seriously, I appreciate all of the work Arsene has put into Arsenal, and I am happy for him to stay if he intends to buy ACTUAL QUALITY, showing he is at least trying for success. But if he has no intention of doing so, especially when we are certain he has funds to spend, then he must go.

aren't the majority of posters on here foreign Arsenal fans/London Gooners living abroad?
Most of who have family connections or have lived in London in the past, passing on their support to the next generation.
Only real exception to this is the Scandinavian fans who have been coming to The Arsenal since at least the '70's. That's from watching live games & it being the close season in winter up there! And going games when visiting London.

Most of these new breed of overseas supporters have no connection with the club before the marketing of the PL spread it's evil grip worldwide, it's like Aussie Rules or American Football suddenly brainwashing the population here & everyone choosing a team you've got no connection to. Or in a few years it could be the Bundesliga?

Usually people who buy US sports merchandise in England don't have a scoobie who the teams are, they just think it's cool or bling. But these overseas supporters look like they have joined the moonies or some brainwashed cult :barscarf:

Unless you have a proper connection with a club or team why should you support them anyway? For example I could support Kilkenny in Hurling & be a glory seeker, wining cups very season, instead I support Wexford where my family roots are, despite they always being totally shite!!!! :barscarf:

During my early childhood (until about 14 years old), I was a 'light' Arsenal fan because my dad was, so naturally I wasn't really going to support anyone else. It was just a case of someone asking which football team I supported, and I would just say "Arsenal", even though I didn't really know who we were playing next .
I wasn't really a massive fan until I went to my first Arsenal game in 2009 (Arsenal v Man City), which strangely, my school took about 30 of us to as our P.E teacher has connections to someone at Arsenal. Since that game, I immediately took an interest in Arsenal and haven't stopped taking an interest in them since.
Unfortunately, only being 17, living 70 miles from London and lacking money, I can only go to watch them yearly when my school takes us as we get to go for only £40 a head including a bus their and back, but I watch 99% of the matches on telly or via online streaming. If I start earning enough money to, I will go and watch Arsenal religiously Home and Away. By the way when I do watch them, i'm not one of these fans that just sits there complaining about the bloke chanting next to me, but I always sing my heart out.
But I fear that because of my initiation of supporting of Arsenal, as well as my location, perhaps I qualify as a plastic or at least a 'not proper fan'?

I've no idea how you know what people's connections are to Arsenal.

Somebody needs to tell Wenker that he no longer has the prettiest wife...

She has become very complacent, let herself go, makes no effort like she used to do, become dull and often lifeless, wears the same old clothes time after time, goes through the motions and fallen behind many other wives who are busy getting their hair done, improving their features, regularly clear out their old clothes which no longer fit, and goes to exercise classes to keep trim.

Other wives have recently company parted with their husbands, some long term, others fairly short but still successful marriages, the wives are still looking to build a new life, they still have a sparkle in their eyes, passion in their hearts and a determination to be the prettiest wife in England

Wenker's old girl needs to buck up or admit it's over and he can move in with his mistress.(if she will still have him)

Who cares about what other people think? Only you know whether you are a "true" Arsenal fan or a true Scotsman. Anyway you started supporting Arsenal because of your dad; that, in my eyes, is as "true" as it gets.

One thing for sure, glory hunters never support Arsenal. Thanks for that, Arsene :barscarf:

Wenger:

"I hope in the next two or three years the club will be competing for the Premier League"

The next 2 or 3 years? How much time does this stubborn old fucker want now? Wenger said 4 years ago that we were ''2% away from domination''. Are we expected to take anything he says seriously?

Arsene Wenger has admitted that if Arsenal do not end their trophy drought in the next "one or two years" his strategy for the club will have failed.

"If we do not deliver in one or two years I will be responsible," said the Frenchman

"If we do not get there next year or the year after then you can say this was not the right way."
And that was over 4 years ago! I wish some journalists would have the bollocks to pull him up on this kinda stuff... :banghead:

That article both amuses me and angers me in equal measure - there are so many examples of wenger's fcuked up assessment of things within the club that you cannot but be amazed that the senile old c.unt is still in power   I especially love the suggestion that if he sold alex song all of us Gooners would demand answers as to why he sold him

Brilliantly argued, using wenger's own -admittedly witty - analogy against him!! 8)
