SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I would have been delighted with Villa or Gomez
I guess Falcao, Cavani and Neymar were never realistic
Tevez slipped under the radar somewhat - he would have been an excellent signing

who is left? Obviously Higgy - now chased by Napoli. Suarez, Rooney and Jovetic
we were linked with El Shaarawy at AC Milan, I think he extended his contract...

Sometimes Wenger makes leftfield signings the press don't link - (Eduardo)
so feasible and good strikers: Balotelli, Berbatov, Benteke, I like Papiss Cisse, Giuseppe Rossi recovered from injury, Negredo (or has he signed for City already?), Kiessling from Leverkusen, I hear Pato is getting some stick in the Brazilian press, Eto'o if he's made enough money in Russia, Milito is back from longterm injury at Inter
so mostly older players or returning from injury...

none quite as exciting as Higuain.

Not saying we were ever going to buy him or anything but I still believe that given a choice higuain would pick us over Napoli every day of the week.

I'd agree with pretty much all of that (other than Balotelli being feasible). Neymar, Falcao and Cavani never going to happen. Likewise with Suarez or Rooney, despite what the press may have you believe - the clubs would demand in excess of £40m for both if they're willing to sell to us at all and we ain't gonna pay it.

Our top transfer targets up front should imo have been the likes of Gomez and Higuain, possibly Jovetic (although would rather one of the others) with the likes of Villa and the other players in the twilight of their career as either supplementary or back-up options. I'm perfectly aware that Higuain and Jovetic are still available but surely somebody else is going to swoop for the former as we seem to have put any attempts to sign him on hold and Fiorentina have no reason to want to sell the latter and hence will demand a princely sum that we won't pay.

Agreed, but he may not have a choice if we don't at least match Napoli's offer.

sure you're right about Balotelli Northbank - I've just always liked him
wishful thinking.

maybe with Papiss Cisse falling out with the Barcodes we should get involved
I really rate him - great finisher, very two footed, good in the air, knows the league

(go straight to 2.50 if you just want those two goals v Chelski)

I think Newcastle in general struggled - they seemed to become a lot more direct and create far fewer chances

Yep - wouldn't be a bad shout to put a wad on Papiss Cisse to be our big summer signing.

Imo would be a good option in the squad but if we are insistent on this formation we need a genuinely top class forward.

Kind of surprised that no one mentioned Lewandowski - he has a year left on his contract and in my eyes, Dortmund have already bought a replacement - they just don't want to sell to Bayern.

I think that they would sell to us without a doubt, providing that we put in a worthy bid and not £3.50 and a Tescos voucher.
