Would you not have had him?
Look at this way....what people are saying is that even if he's a decent player we have much bigger priorities and the same could be argued for Oscar at the Chavs actually. He did OK last season but what let them down was that they didn't replace Drogba, sent Lukaku out on loan and persisted with Torres . If they had their time again they wouldn't have spunked all that cash on Hazard and Oscar and would have blown £50m on Falcao instead. They lost the title because of Torres and no back up option.
If we sign Bernard at the expense of a striker we'll be the same i.e. he might well look OK, but he will not be the difference between this side winning something or not

I think Chelsea could afford to take a punt on Oscar though as they weren't so lacking in other areas like we are.
Exactly - the chavs had a strong spine to their team (although you could argue that they needed a centre forward too) and they had plenty of grafters to do the "dirty work" that allowed oscar, hazard and of course mata to shine. They had a squad of leaders/strong personalities that would allow a kid like oscar to ease into their football without any great pressure.
Tbh if I was offered oscar at 20m right now I would turn it down too - needs and priorities come first
So French paper says Bernard will have a medical on Fri and people get all excited haven't we been here b4 ,FFS unless you see this guy in an arsenal shirt then it's all bullshit .Some people need to have a word with themselves.
Bernard is a massive gamble at 22m , but then look how much cash we've lose with supposedly low risk signings such as Chamakh. If we are willing to pay 22m then there must be something about the guy which separates him from all the other tricksters in that league. I have to admit I am concerned about his size though.

Cazorla, Mata, Silva, Tevez etc have torn up this league and they're hardly giants are they.
The best player in the world is 5'7".
Plus Bernard is only 20, he could still grow a bit more.

No doubt in my mind that we'll sign a striker SteveO

I'm sure we'll sign a striker too. I'm just extremely concerned that it will be Papiss Cisse or someone on that level rather than the top drawer striker that our formation and moreover our club demands.
No question Bernard is a talent. I won't be disappointed if we sign him, I think he'll be a quality player in time. But I also agree with the others, I don't see him as any kind of a priority and it'll undoubtedly take a while for him to settle. There are far more pressing concerns I'd rather we address first. But as long as we do address those concerns with quality signings, then I'll be happy with this signing too (if it happens, which it wont).

That's the concern isn't it? Lets face it we could go out and sign Cisse or Remy tomorrow. The players would drop everything to join us, but they aren't the level we should aspire to.
I really hope 1989 is right because 2-3 major additions in my opinion would put us within a few points of the title and once you're in that spot anything can happen as has been proven time and time again. When you're 15 points + off the pace by Christmas the whole mindset of the club changes and it becomes the 4th placed trophy for another season. Seeing Suarez scoring 25 goals a season would keep us in the hunt for most of the main prizes on offer. Seeing Remy rotated with Giroud will not
John cross on Twitter asked Wenger after the game today if the rumours about Bernard were true, and Wenger said they aren't true .hopefully tht will be the end of all the bullshit being posted
