SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Rigsby, what's your proposition?
Do you think Liverpool and Arsenal football clubs are run by people with such high moral standards
That they wouldn't countenance nefarious under the counter transfer activity?
Football clubs aren't known as paragons of virtue. Why would a suggestion of low down scammy behaviour be a joke?

It's not necessarily a bad thing ; many have already decided he can't be any good as we have not heard of him?

Incorrect - what most have said, even those pro his signing, is that we have other far far more pressing needs than another small winger/playmaker and even stevie wonder can see the validity of that point. The 2nd point that you seem to have missed is that the fee is way too expensive for an unproven at the top level type of player - that is not the same as saying that he isnt good enough
Yes we have pressing needs but Arsenal have lost Arshavin and it's highly likely that Gervinho will go as well. Regardless of if you rate them or not, that's two players from the squad gone which now needs addressing.

People complain that we don't sign anyone then complain about the price! If this deal even happens and he turns out good then who cares how much he cost? City paid out 35M for Fernadinho earlier in the transfer window. He's played for Shakhtar and has about 2 caps for Brazil at the age of 28. What's the difference? You could argue that City could sign anyone they want but instead chose that bloke.

Although I agree that we have more pressing needs (i.e. a striker. 'keeper and centre midfielder + back up centre back), I do think a creative player is pretty essential.

We lack creativity and drive. At times last season (even during our good run at the end) we looked predictable, slow and lacking in creativity and imagination. That needs to be addressed, and adding a creative player into a team with Cazorla and Wilshere may just restore much of the entertainment and creativity that we've lacked since that disastrous summer when we lost Cesc and Nasri.

Also, just because we may conclude the transfer of a playmaker before a striker or midfielder, doesn't necessarily mean Wenger has his priorities wrong - it may just be that that transfer was easier to complete, and the other (more pressing) additions are still in the pipeline.

That said, at £21m (assuming it's true), that would suggest a big money striker AND midfielder is probably out of the question.

I guess we'll find out once the window closes.

I think you'll find they're all out of the question mate, as we play round 5 of our exciting new quiz - What the fuck goes on in Wenger's head?

To be fair, it's all hypothetical. As you say, they're probably all out the question :(

"Unproven shit"

Clueless

In fairness buddy he is totally unproven - the guy has no european experience whatsoever and has only 5 international caps and no major finals experience. If that doesnt class as unproven then I dont know what does :?

I think suggestions that we are using suarez to pressure real madrid over a deal for higuain is wishful thinking - you got to be thinking that higuain would be well pissed off at AFC's performance is these transfer negotiations and would be questioning how much they would really want him. In any case, the very second napoli entered the race for higuain's signiture such a plan should have gone up in smoke cos madrid would no longer feel pressure to reduce their demands. This saga has all the hallmarks of an AFC transfer balls up - IF we are/were keen on signing him then I feel that we will be the odd one out in this scenario as napoli get higuain, madrid get suarez, the victims get a cash injection to invest in hannibal replacements whilst we are in the same position that we currently are
He's by all accounts the best player in the Brazilian league now that Neymar has gone. Would you really say no to a player like this who has the potential to get even better seeing as he's only 20 years old?

As for Higuain, I'm feeling less and less confident about him. I think we're just going all out for Suarez and if that doesn't come off then there will be no new striker. That's the way I see it. Never bought into all these theories about forcing Madrid to sell us Higuain by bidding for Suarez.

For those moaning about priorities, would you want Wenger to put his full focus on signing a striker and ignore other positions then while that is being sorted? Doesn't it make sense to go for targets in other positions in the meantime?

I'm no Wenger fan, but the bloke seemingly can't win on here. :D

Overrated and overpriced. We're getting Bernard anyway.
