Do you want Luis Suarez?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

At the end of the day I don't think it's in anybody's interests to drag up a topic that was no doubt flogged to death on here but don't you think it's funny how obviously the first time he used this word since moving to Europe happened to be that instance, and that he didn't realise when he repeated it for the 20th time that it was clearly causing offence.
I'm sure he has used the term with many before without getting in trouble for it (for instance, Daniel Pacheco, a Liverpool team-mate, once called Glen Johnson "negrito" on Twitter yet Johnson wasn't offended). I'm convinced it's a cultural thing, and Evra probably just wanted to stir it all up, knowing how much of an utter *word censored* he is.

I refuse to believe Suarez is a racist or has anything against Blacks. He's part Black himself ffs.

I don't think he's necessarily a racist - throwing around racist insults don't make you a racist. I just think he's a petulant prick who'll do anything to try and get an advantage, including going to extreme lengths to wind opposition up.

But it seems pretty obvious that regardless of whether his first use caused offence he must have realised that Evra interpreted it as racist (and was evidently agitated at the time) - and then used it another 20+ times to wind him up.

Madrid's mouthpiece Marca are saying RM won't sign Suarez "even if he begged".
I bet AW is scared now, we might have a free run.

The main reason that I don't post on here very often any more is that comments can sometimes descend into abuse.

Thank you Highbury JD, Perry & Schwartz.

With regard to TeeCee:
.....Are you for real??
Yes.
As a consequence of the recession the far right represent a worrying minority?
See the way that the EDL have infiltrated the support of a number of clubs, notably in the Midlands
First of all, the world economy causes every race and colour to behave differently, you are actually quite racist yourself to suggest that it's just the far right that is worrying!
I don't follow your line of argument. Suarez allegedly made a racist comment. There are those who would applaud him for doing so. These tend to be of a far-right persuasion, hence the reference. I am not "quite racist" and find it somewhat offensive that you would suggest this with no evidence whatsoever.
The failed terrorism plots in several different countries over the past few months have all been planned by muslims, anything to say about that?
This does seem rather general and doesn't recognise coups and threats posed by Israeli, Christian and indeed, non-denominational groups.
Has Sunderland become a place of racists yet?
Not 'become'...just before Di Canio's appointment, there was an EDL demo there. Many Sunderland fans were angry about the appointment.
Jesus, what a pathetic country the UK has become.
Each to his own - I'm rather fond of it myself.

With regard to 'Jumpers...':
the original post is utter rubbish
Is that constructive criticism?
How the hell is signing Suarez going to "encourage any fans of The Arsenal with EDL sympathies to become more vocal."??
...because the EDL/BNP types will jump on any bandwagon and give it their political angle if possible. There will be those who, if we were to sign Suarez, who would turn that into a banner of pride. I used to sit two seats away from a bloke who was loudly racist; plenty of people around him "had a word", thankfully.
And what has "It's not that long since the Islamic centre in Muswell Hill was torched" got to do with Arsenal FC??
Muswell Hill being smack in the middle of North London and full of Gooners (and some Spurs admittedly.) A divisive act in a Multicultural part of The Arsenal territory, and whilst the vast majority of people were rightly massively pissed off about this, there will always be some who will find some justification...the same voices who would applaud someone with alleged racist tendencies.
The original poster should stick to watching Citizen Smith or ranting in the student union bar.
Why do you feel the need to attack the poster, rather than criticize the post? That is not constructive. Besides, I'm the wrong side of 40 and haven't seen 'Citizen Smith' since about 1981...

Back to TeeCee:
in my very poor understanding of groups like the EDL, they are patriotic to the extreme? They want english jobs for englishmen etc etc? Well I'm not sure an olive skinned Uruguayan is exactly the sort of poster boy they would be looking for??

...oh but they do, TeeCee, they do - anyone 'non-white' tends to fit their bill. They like to twist situations to suit their own agenda

Thank you for responding, but can we keep responses to criticisms of opinions, rather than anything aimed at the poster? Schwartz Gooner's posts ought to set the tone.

No dont want him.
He is an unpredictable cheating diving biting twat.
He would be more trouble than he is worth. Which is no where near the bin dippers valuation.
Cant stand the fucker.

Really, you want neither [Suarez nor Rooney?]

Who do you want? .

I understand that Rooney and Suarez may be trouble, but surely it's better to have a world class "problem" than go into the season with Giroud as our best centre forward? (who else is there available? :? :( )
Yes, true, better to have one of those than have Giroud as main striker.

Cavani, Llorente, Falcao, Messi, Van Persie, Aguero and now Higuian all out of reach.

No idea if any of these are available, but I would try for, in order, these four who would be new to the Premier League, but exciting -

Lewandowski - All round warrior, can score out of nothing.
Benzema - Power, timing and good link man too.
El Shaarawy - Pace, freshness and confidence.

If nothing doing then these other two are worth a look -

German Denis "The Tank" - Power, experience and tough as old boots BUT really lacks pace.
Remy - I wanted to see him bought as an Arshavin replacement in addition to a main striker, BUT his criminal charge hanging over him is somewhat off putting to say the least, both personally and professionally.
He might though be innocent like RvP was.

(I think Lewandewski's record speaks for itself.
Reckon Benzema would really suit us, though he brings off field baggage of his own and am not sure at all that Real Madrid are looking to sell him.)

Ideally, I would love to say 'no' but increasingly with other candidates off the menu, (toothless up front) beggar's can't be choosers. Classless but classy but we would take him on knowing that it would only be a transient arrangement and that his bullying nomadic ways would be played out with us sooner rather than later. If....and that's a gargantuan 'if', we somehow spend silly money on him, it will only be a temporary solution to our striker problems. Ironically if Wenger had opened his eyes and the cheque book a few seasons back, spent 40 million on what needed spending on, we would still have Rvp, possibly Cesc and a team that would might have accomplished something more than the 4th place trophies and primed to make a decent challenge on a very disrupted top tier. Instead our hopes of progression seem more and more rested on getting this individual who sums up a lot and more in the odious world of the modern footballer. From Thierry Henry to Luis Suarez ,(should we get him ) another example of how far we've fallen.

i'm in the no camp. i dont want this guy anywhere near the club. he is TOXIC. just look at the 7 pages, thus far, of bitching and fighting over whether or not the guy is a racist, prick, diving cheat, etc. would we have 7 pages about falcao, higuain, etc. ??

bottom line, the guy is bad news surrounded by a cloud of controversy..... no thanks

he said I kicked you because you're negro - whether you 'culturally' interpret that as "black" or "nigger" it's obviously intended to be a wind up.
I once foolishly referred to our erstwhile poster Babatunde with a Nigerian colloquialism that was easily misinterpreted as racist. I think people can be over sensitive about rude words. Who knows what's in Suarez soul, he def was trying to wind Evra up.

Personally doubt he will do that again. His embarrassing diving is far more likely to be an ongoing issue.
And the minute a bigger club is in he will make his position untenable - Gronigen - Ajax - Liverpool - we will just be another stepping stone. Is it worth it?

I can see both sides, maybe it IS worth it. I still sway towards no, he's overpriced IMO

I havent seen enough of Suarez to say whether he merits a 50m valuation. Some pool fans say he is better than Torres was - I have not seen much evidence to bak up that claim. Would y.ou say he is truly one of say the top 5 foreards in the world?

Absolutely crazy money
it makes absolutely no difference to arsenal supporters if we spent 1 pound on him or 60 mil its not comming out of our pockets, we already pay for the highest priced tickets in football so i cannot see how it affects us as individuals at all....

yes the market is inflated so what? dont play that game dont strengthen and continue buying fringe players.

It's fairly simple really, you either get on the bus and enjoy the ride or you stand at the bus stop watching bus after bus go by (like we have done for years) hoping that the world runs out of oil and everyone has to walk everywhere, the same as we do!

If we pay 50m to get on the bus, we are competing again, if we continue to wait at the bus stop, it's just a matter of time before Jack and Cazorla jump in a taxi and f*** off to another club who has ambition. :|
