SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Everyone is so Hollywood these days - striker, striker, striker - we need a world class DM before anything and frankly our back 4 are average at best.
I'm not sure buying a striker is "hollywood", swifty.

Our rivals have Van Persie, Rooney, Hendandez (United); Torres, Ba, Schurlle (Chavs); Aguero, Negredo, Jotevic, Dzeko (Citeh). Even Liverpool have Suarez and Sp*rs have Adebayor, Defoe and (possibly) Soldado.

We have Giroud :? All the other options (Podolski, Theo, Bendtner, Chamakh and Park) are clearly not trusted by Wenger to play as a striker, and their appearances in that position back that up.

We're desperate for a striker, swifty. We have one, and he's not at the level we need. It's not hollywood; it's necessity. :? :(

Agreed g88ner - no team can compete in the PL without at least one very good striker. If Chelsea had one last year they would have challenged, but as it was they were never in it whilst watching van Judas bang them in week in week out.

Furthermore, our system is ridiculously dependent on a world class striker. We basically play 4-5-1 and don't even have consistent delivery from the wingers to rely upon. Our striker needs to have pace, a great touch and wide range of passing to bring others into play, good work rate, bucketloads of patience, killer finishing, a great footballing brain and most important fantastic movement and ability to make a yard of space. Fall down on a few of these and all our passing and pretty play in midfield becomes toothless and insipid.

I have to say of all van Judas' traits, I think his movement is by far the most underplayed. The 3-1 win at home to Stoke the season before last stands out to me - the one game we left him on the bench and we were shite, he came off the bench and won the game by twice losing both centre-halves on the six-yard line.

I think she is being quite mild and well mannered, I think she would like to say more and be more demanding & forceful in her opinions, but is holding back, but if what she says is true, that it IS Wenger who is refusing to spend and Gazidis and the Board ARE saying here's the money go and spend it on players...then perhaps it's time they got a Director of Football in so that all transfers are done by them and wenger has to work with the players provided/ bought, and if he doesn't like it then he can leave - What i would call a Win Win situation.

Second best in the league. Keep hearing criticism of our defence.
Was defending that scrabbled us into the CL.
Seems obvious to me we need at least one forward. Two if Sanogo isn't ready immediately.
Been a hole in our squad for two seasons.

Seems to me that we can only defend properly to the detriment of our attacking play. Games where we defended very well were pretty much all backs to the wall after we'd nicked a goal. Games where we went out and played some good stuff going forward, we tended to look shambolic.

I'm struggling to think of many games where you can say we were very impressively both defensively and going forward. Anybody disagree?
