SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

And could put his price up.

Gazidis needs to keep his mouth shut telling all the world we got £70 million to spend (or waste).

It tells every club to add millions to any player we want to sign, ass hole :banghead:
Suarez wants CL football.

I'm convinced that Gazidis publicized our "spending power" to put pressure on Wenger.

If only.....Gazidis and Wenger are joined at the hip. It just sounds convincing to fans when the CEO comes out with statements about our commercial deals and increased buying power. Its what marketeers do every day of the week and this isn't the first time Gazidis has been bragging about our spending power only to then go and make a transfer profit or breakeven in the window

Wenger is the man who earns Gazidis his massive bonus and remuneration of 4x the normal level for a company of Arsenal's size.

Kroenke and Gazidis love Wenger to bits and why not? If he scrapes 4th again and spends fuck all, they make another £30m to £40m in profit......more than enough to invest in some new property developments

Well if that ends up being the case, they should brace themselves for the mother of all fan backlashes then.

Gazidis isn't stupid. He wouldn't want to brag about how much we can spend only to harm his position later after we end the summer with a profit.

It's all to put pressure on that fuckwit Wenger to spend.

By the way, Amy Lawrence of the Guardian was on BBC Radio the other day claiming that there is tension between Wenger and the board regarding Suarez. Apparently the board are willing to bid higher for Suarez but Wenger is refusing to go above his own valuation of the player, which is the £40m (+1p) he offered.

Only one person is holding this club back and it's Wenger.

On this, I agree. More than £40M is too much for Suarez.

I'd settle for no further signings if it guaranteed The Gormless One was off in May '14. The end justifies the means and if finishing 6th after an abysmal season is the price to pay, so be it. There's one season left in me, no more.

Yet recently Gazidis was happy to tell us that a new contract was being readied :banghead: - that hardly points towards a division in the camp :rubchin: :?

I disagree. I think he's worth a bit more.

Cavani has gone for £55m.
Falcao has gone for £51m.
Neymar has gone for £50m.
Bale about to go for £85m.

Suarez is a 26 year old world-class striker with 3 years left on his contract. He should go for at least £45m in the current market.

If only again ! The Arsenal fans backlash consists of mild booing by about 5000 fans remaining in the ground and the odd disgruntled "spend some fucking money". The ground is mostly sold out even if not everyone turns up, the club makes the same amount of profit and when we scrape 4th the mild booing turns into joyous celebration and we're back to "There's Only One Arsene Wenger"

Honestly mate, nothing ever changes. What we are experiencing here is nothing different to what has gone before. The man is incapable or unwilling (or both) to adapt his transfer policy to that of a supposed superclub in the year 2013. He longs for a return to the days of 1998 when he had a clear run at French talent.......when France ruled the footballing world. Unfortunately his employers' are happy to back his policies because it makes him rich

So far everything I thought that would happen in this window has happened........and I expect a continuation of that trend when Remy and Ashley Williams are signed in a last minute trolley dash in late August. There will not be a single signing of more than £20m but he'll lament how 'very close' we were

If we don't bring in any more players this summer I honestly think Wenger's position will become untenable. Let's wait and see.

What about factoring in the inevitable hissy-fit and stamping of the feet when Madrid come in in 12/24 months time?

It's not ideal, but at least he'd fetch a large fee, so wouldn't be the end of the world.

I'd rather have controversial, ambitious world class players than a group of average Joes who will happily stay forever and never complain. We're in this to win silverware, after all.

I reckon we should grab Joey Barton if for no other reason than entertainment value. Probably never get a run but at least he's a character with passion. My letterbox has more personality than this lot.
We need a keeper that scares the opposition and abuses our players, a DM that everyone thinks is nuts, a striker that is so arrogant it makes you puke if he's an opponent and a CB that is so physically and mentally imposing opposition strikers drop back into the midfield.
Yeah Jack is fiery but Viera would have eaten him and so would Roy Keane and Gattuso.
Anyways....
