Kenneth Graham Sansom

If this is true then its an absolute tragedy.

My first Arsenal captain and the first to lift a trophy as a supporter: 2-1 v Mousers - Kenny started the move that led to Champagne Charlie scoring the winner and bursting Ian Rush's never loses when scores record.

Met him on my legends tour of Highbury and an absolute top man in every sense.

86 caps for England and well deserving of legend status in my book.

Maybe Arsenal could show a bit of class and offer some support - they're not spending money on anything else.

To be honest he's been in this sort of state for many years now but he works part time for the club still i think .
Does a few bahmitzvahs here and there but then goes from bar to street to bookie !
Mrs Herd and her workmates had a afternoon pissing it up with him n Perry G once in spoofers !

Wouldn't it be nice to see Arsenal raising some awareness of this and helping the guy out, instead of a "Your favourite Eboue moment" campaign.... :roll:

Jaysus, that is tragic. Had the pleasure of meeting him onstage at one of those "ask an ex-player a question" things in Block 30 or 31 a few years back. I was pissed, I think he was too! :D :wink: Anyway I gave him a big hug and whilst initially he looked a bit scared he took it well. I was proper impressed to meet a proper Arsenal legend and he was an absolute gent although at my towering 5'8" I was a clear inch above him, which surprised me, as I always got the impression he clocked in around 5'10"... bit like the way Lefty thinks he himself is now clocking in at 5'10"!! :-P :wink:

As a player Kenny was brilliant, one of the best English left backs of the last 40 years, rugged, skilled, fearless, intelligent, pacey and could actually cross a ball!!! :shock: (take note Sagna/Gibbs :roll: ). As a Captain he was Arsenal through and through. 8)

Christ, when you think of some of the spineless useless chaff we have had at this club in the last 8 or so years and you mention their names alongside true legends from the past, it really brings into perspective how fucking far we have fallen... :(

Just say these names;

Sansom... Brady... Adams... Bergkamp... Vieira... Kennedy... Charlie... Geordie Armstrong... Wilson... Overmars... Uncle Bouldy... Henry... Rocastle... Wrighty...

8) 8) 8)

And then;

Comedy Eboue... LegoHead... The Camel... Comedy Song... Perma-crock Diaby... Bendtner... Almunia... the Fat Russian... The Forehead...

:oops: :oops: :oops:

Very upsetting :( he was before my time but everyone holds him in high regard and from what I've seen of him he deserves to be considered an Arsenal legend, hope the club show some class and help him out.

Reminds me of what I hear last year about him collapsing near Piebury corner. Thought it was a one-off, didn't know he was struggling like this.

Kenny was a guest in The Rocket a few years back, and was standing at the bar with his wife happily chatting to punters while sipping on a drink.

Unbeknown to his wife, he asked us to 'look after' his drinks inside the DJ booth ; initially two bottles of wine, which he would pour into a pint glass and drink in one, as he escaped the wife for a few minutes under the guise of a toilet break.

Been on and off the wagon numerous times since then I think.

It's hardly an either or situation... and I think there's nothing wrong whatsoever with the club trying to have a little fun with their younger fans on twitter. I know most of us are miserable old cants, but there's still a shed load of younger fans who should be allowed to engage with the club in a fun, carefree way.

I remember when I was a Junior Gunner, I sent in a drawing (coloured in like 8) ) of Lee Dixon. Bloody good it was too... even got me into the JG magazine 8) back then, I didn't really understand Graham's bung nor the tragedy of Adams being an alcoholic. It was so much easier back then; I loved the club unconditionally, and didn't have a cynical or negative thought towards them at all. They could do no wrong in my eyes :barscarf: .

In any case, apparently Arsenal ARE trying to help!
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 42001.html

As for raising awareness... that's surely Kenny's (and his family's) decision, not Arsenal's. They're helping behind the scenes, which is just how it should be.

DJs. He cannot stand DJs.

But hope the club and Tony Adams' clinic can help Kenny Sansom.

On a similar note, yesterday I met a former commonwealth Boxing champion who is now homeless.
He had been drinking, and was in a shocking state with a tragic life story.
He wanted me to give him a lift somewhere but I would not let him in my car because he was clearly psychologically unstable and probably carrying hard drugs...but I gave him a bit of cash and will see if people I know in Boxing can help.

Life cn be very much full of ups an downs.
