SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I still think we will sign a couple of class signings, no doubt at all.

We will def make signings, lets hope most of them are good ones.
To go alongside the "marquee" signing we were certain to make in January?

[quote="Arsenal Till I Die"]@DeadlineDay - Understand that Arsenal have been given permission to speak to Luis Suarez after a £45m bid was accepted by Liverpool.[/quo

Assume we bought him...money left for a CB or DM? Would love Gustavo as DM...reminds me off a modern Brain Talbot!!! Sahko from PSG or Williams from Swansea....sorry I am dreaming...coming over for the Villa game..and I am already nervous about loosing the game..we have to buy class this time

The Times:

Arsenal have joined Juventus in the race for Geoffrey Kondogbia, the Sevilla midfielder, who is valued at £14 million

And Nani.........Christ...it would be like taking part in the National Lottery

I admire the optimism, but am truly shocked at the naivety!

I kind of understand the panic, we had quite the same with Dortmund a couple of weeks ago. This summer its crazy. Too many clubs with just too much money (they didnt earn) involved, too many new managers who need "presents".
However, there are still players with character, not only looking for big money, but for clubs with character. Arsenal definetly is one of the greatest, Wenger has a great reputation, too, especially with the young guys. You dont have to settle with guys like Marica. So if possible, try to be patient, it might turn out good earlier than you think.

I still think that was the logical time to go large.

Waiting till this transfer window was a mistake for several reasons:
More competition in the market - Monaco have gone crazy, Citeh and PSG continue to do so. Real madrid as per usual insanely splashing the banks money. New TV deal also inflated market. Prices just go up and up.

Timing logical too. As it happens we came 4th but IMO was too much of a gamble.
I thought it was obvious we would need more goals at the end of the season. Strikers are always statement players. 6 months to bed in (without CL pressure) like Greedybarndoor and Arshavin.
we actually scrambled into the top four on the basis of our defence.

It would also signify ambition to whoever we went for THIS window.
We knew the money was there with TV, strip and sponsor were always going to be renewed on better terms.
Hope this window proves me wrong but I thought then it was a big strategic error and nothing has changed my mind yet.

That's just the thing. We know the money's going to be there (with the new Emirates, kit manufacturer and TV deals) yet Gazidis and co seem happy to suggest that after years of belt-tightening we're then going to go out one year all of a sudden and then splurge.

Instead of 6 years of roughly breaking even then spending £70m, surely it would have been better to stagger the spending over a greater period? Still the same end result financially but far better for the team and also less risk as we wouldn't be cutting it quite so fine with staving off the Scum.

FFs we have spent so far minus 2 mill we have at least 120mill in the bank gathering dust that not ncluding all the new deals we are nowhere near the top 3 fans , players media all say the same spend some fucking money and all Arsenal do is the opposite like trying to make a stand that everyone laughs at and I cannot see how this is going to change as all the board and manager do is slap each other on the backs next is wenger's new contract then watch the dividends come out of the club.pretty sad how things are going at our club . :(
