The Gunners boss admits he has no idea what Liverpool will do regarding the Uruguayan striker following reports the striker is considering taking legal action to force a move

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted the club's pursuit of Luis Suarez is "on standby" following reports the Liverpool striker is considering taking legal action to force a move.

The Gunners have already seen two bids for the Uruguayan rejected, the more recent being upwards of £40 million to trigger a supposed release clause, while Suarez is adamant the club said he could leave if the Anfield outfit failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

"At the moment the situation is on standby," Wenger told Al Jazeera Sport. "I heard that [Suarez is considering legal action to force a move] but this is sometimes linked with things that you don't know as a potential buyer.

"That is the story between Suarez and Liverpool and I don't know what has been said, what has been promised and what has been written and that is only Suarez and Liverpool that can decide that.

"It's nothing to do with us. We have been told that the player wants to leave Liverpool and that's why we've acted."

Asked on the latest regarding Suarez after the striker pulled out of Liverpool's travelling squad for a friendly in Norway, Wenger admitted: "I really don't know, that's for sure, I really don't know what will be decided by Liverpool."

The Frenchman is now playing the waiting game, and has admitted to frustration with the augmented transfer market following big-money moves by Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, for Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao respectively, but promised fans the club are pursuing a marquee signing.

"It's going slowly," he continued. "Slower than expected [because clubs have] more money than talent and the clubs with talented players don't want to lose them.

"Some clubs acted very early so the choices were reduced, plus there is more competition coming from France. PSG buy big players for huge amounts of money so it's tough and difficult and slow."

Heaven forbid clubs should get their act together and secure new signings for pre season eh Arseole? And wtf is "more money than talent" supposed to mean? Never mind, all this "talent" in Ligue 1 who won't get a chance with PSG and Monaco have a ready made home waiting for them at the bowl

It's this augmented transfer market crap again. He keeps pretending that we're existing in the real transfer market (whatever that is) whilst a small handful of playboy-owned clubs have their own.

It's not just the likes of PSG, Monaco, Citeh and Chelsea. Barca paid £50m for a player who's only ever played in a piss-poor league (almost universally regarded as a great coup and fair price), Madrid have paid over £30m each for two kids. Bayern, Napoli and Fiorentina paid a combined total of about £65m for three players who weren't first choice at their clubs. Even Spurs have paid £26m for a 28-year old with a good goalscoring record but who is far from world class.

All my hopes are on Gazidis hanging Wenger out to dry, No signings arrive, results are less than impressive, pressure mounts and Gazidis lumps the blame entirely on Wenger sacking him halfway through the season!

Guardian reporting United in for Fellaini. Thought this would end up happening all along but seems odd they'd have waited so long (especially with his reported release clause). I guess they may have been hanging round for better targets like Thiago and Fabregas but I have to say their inactivity thus far seems negligent. Hardly panic alarms at this stage but after a string of poor pre-season results and strengthening from Citeh and Chelsea, a poor start in the league (not inconceivable given their fixtures) will see the press get their knives out for Moyes.

In other news Wigan have had a bid accepted for McClean. Strange really when you think of how he was talked about when he first broke through but from what I've seen and heard it seems like a combination of his attitude and being a bit of a one-trick pony have held him back massively.

Would you really say no to Suarez if Dortmund had a legit chance of signing him? Be honest.

BBC are reporting that Barcelona have bid for David Luiz:

I'm surprised there haven't been any strong rumours linking Verm with other clubs. He's not guaranteed a first-team place anymore so I thought some clubs would be looking at him. Looks like his stock has fallen a bit.

This is turning out to be quite interesting, both Arsenal and Suarez believe that any bid over £40m will trigger a release clause, yet the hoofers are saying that its the starting price, all of which was agreed last season with Suarez claiming that failure to qualify for the cl would allow the move. :? :rubchin: :?

Lord Wenker must be shitting himself right now,he puts in a joke bid for a player that's not available just to appease the sheep and all of a sudden it might happen,i think its only fare of our deluded leader to tell suarez right now 'sorry it was a joke that's backfired' before suarez actually thinks that Wenker will part with any £££££ what so ever, never gonna happen

Absolute shambles - the money that must be earned by Suarez's advisors and they've let Liverpool ambiguously word a release clause. A clause obliging Liverpool to inform Suarez of any massive offer seems bizarre and pointless - don't doubt he thought he was getting a straight release clause at that fee.
