SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Flamini, 29, is a free agent and keeping fit at Arsenal :rubchin:

Could we...? should we...? will we...? :o
Might not be a bad idea to re-sign Flamini?

Just read that there are several other clubs after Gustavo :( I knew that it was too early to get excited!

We sooooo need a signing!

IF we were to seriously go for Gustavo he would definitely come to us imo. Despite our poor track record in the market we're a big enough club with enough potential to tempt players above the likes of Napoli.

I agree it should be enough but pepole involved in any transfer ie Wenger,Gazidis,Law ect are they good enough to close the deal when it comes to big time players over the 20 mill mark ?

I'm sure you know that and the bonkers negativity is some sort of defence mechanism
everyone is super excited about Gustavo. Personally not seen enough to judge.
Would we sign him AND the young Colombian?
:D That's partly true.

But really, if someone like Bayern came in with a big offer for Koscielny or a Spanish team for Cazorla would you completely trust the club to turn it down? I wouldn't. Not after what happened last summer ... and the one before that ... and the one before that ...
great, thanks. Talk me round into the pit of despair
;-)

the club really is doing a great job of generating negativity
in even the blindest optimists amongst our fans

But if he rather would like to go to Wolfsburg instead.....nobody can do anything about that...not even Usmanov...

the story so far.........................

Players in: Yaya Sanogo (Auxerre) Free.

Players out: Chuks Aneke (Crewe) Loan, Martin Angha (Nuremberg) Free, Andrey Arshavin (Zenit St Petersburg) Free, Samir Bihmoutine (Released), Joel Campbell (Olympiakos) Loan, Reice Charles-Cook (Bury) Free, Francis Coquelin (Freiburg) Loan, Denilson (Sao Paulo) Free, Johan Djourou (Hamburg) Loan, Craig Eastmond (Colchester) Free, Kyle Ebecilio (Twente) Free, Gervinho (Roma) £8m, Sead Hajrovic (Released), Conor Henderson (Released), Vito Mannone (Sunderland) Undisclosed, Jernade Meade (Swansea) Free, Ignasi Miquel (Leicester) Loan, Elton Monteiro (Club Brugge) Undisclosed, Nigel Neita (Released), Joshua Rees (Released), Philip Roberts (Falkirk) Free, Andre Santos (Flamengo) Undisclosed, James Shea (Released), Sebastien Squillaci (Bastia) Free, Sanchez Watt (Colchester) Free, Jordan Wynter (Bristol City) Free.

•Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis says the club are ready to "escalate" their spending this summer.
•They are linked to strikers Gonzalo Higuain, who eventually joins Napoli for £34.5m, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez, for whom they have a bid of over £40m rejected, but at the time of writing have not made a major signing.
•The Gunners are drawn against Fenerbahce in the play-off round of the Champions League - although the Turkish side could yet be banned from the competition.
•Sir Chips Keswick becomes Arsenal chairman, as Peter Hill-Wood steps down for health reasons.

EXPERT'S VIEW: BBC London 94.9's Ankur Desai: "The only player to come in is Yaya Sanogo, someone with an unproven track record but who already has a proven injury record.

"A season of mediocrity and lack of silverware will have the natives raising their voices and calling for Arsene Wenger to step aside, as unthinkable as it may seem."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "Our base of young players can have a special bond and they are on the way upwards - they are not over the hill.

"They will be better this year and that is why I am confident we will be stronger this season."

No, you can't really legislate for moves like that, where somebody places their family/private life above the football side of things. But I haven't seen anything suggesting that that's the case, and in fact from what I've heard Gustavo wanting to hold out for better offers is why that deal hasn't happened. Besides, could they really afford £15-20m on him + wages? I imagine they were hoping to pick him up cheaper given the lack of interest and the fact Guardiola clearly doesn't view him as an asset to the squad.

And Swimmer no they're undoubtedly not good enough. But the point I was making is that despite our continued shambles and negligence in every single transfer window, the damage on our potential to attract big players has been fortunately minimal - although unless we see a change in personnel or a real shift in attitude (not going to happen) we're never going to exploit that as much as we should.

But then lies another problem Wolfsburg or Arsenal should be a no brainer unless the player has no ambition .
