Also not beating a top team in 'any competition' is obviously wrong
our record against top 4 last season was terrible, wasn't the case in the few seasons before
we've had good wins against top teams whilst disappointing in terms of final position
Not sure anybody said that - I for one said we haven't knocked top sides out of any competition.

And they may have got past United by virtue of a late Howard error but would we still be in the tie after 180 minutes? These days we're beaten before we even step out on the pitch at Old Trafford.

fair enough you did qualify with "knocked out", I'd just remembered the 'any competition' bit...

I think Wenger's record suggests that while possible, it's incredibly unlikely that we will win it. Without rehashing another thread, I think we've been dismal in the European Cup, '04 & '06 excepted.

Well, it's all about perceptions I suppose. I would say that he's had umpteen consecutive bloody goes at it and all we have to show for it is one final appearance.

Just making up the numbers doesn't fit my definition of one of the best 8 teams I'm afraid.

Since we started our run of consecutive CL appearances (1998/99-present), there has been 9 different winners.

Real Madrid (3), Barca (3), ManUre (2), Bayern (2), AC Milan (2), Inter Milan (1), Liverpool (1), Porto (1) & Chelsea (1).

Not only that, but in less attempts Liverpool and Valenica have made the final twice, and Monaco, Leverkusen, Juventus and Dortmund have equaled our record of making 1 final.

So, which top teams have done worse than us? - our record is poor. 15th best in fact based on my stats above :proudtosay:

The only top team I can think of who have a worse record than us is Juventus, and they were finalists in '96 and '97, and have had a rather turbulent few years with match fixing and demotion.

Which other top teams have done worse than us? - our record is poor.
Didn't they lose to AC Milan on pens at Old Trafford in 2003 I wanna say?

This myth that Arsene, Arsenal, the Media, and AKB's perpetuate that we have been this hugely successful CL team is just absolute rubbish. Qualifying to play in it whatever number of years running? Big deal.

As Stattog88ner  points out, compared to other big (and some lesser) clubs our record is shite. ONE final in 16 years??!! NEVER won it? Fucking shite I tell you! :x

Yes, but how can we compete with Leverkusen, Liverpool, Dortmund, Monaco*, Porto and Valencia?

While he is in charge we are not going to win it,im with DB10 he sacrifices the 2 cups tht are very winnable in a vain pursuit of the CL .sooner he fucks off the better the season hasnt started yet hes bought no players which is probably just as well as i wouldnt trust him with 70 cent.7.5 m a year he gets for not winning anything ,im.a glass half full person always have been but this guy is sending me towards the dark side, yet people still defend him.im.just waiting for the 16/17 years in the CL brigade to post on wht an achievement tht is.HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE WON THE FUCKING THING.

A lot of people (myself included) had said they didn't care about qualifying for the CL that they just wanted to finish ahead of the scum. But I have to say the thought of playing Thursdays and Sundays is a bit of ball buster. So here's hoping we stuff Fenerbitche and go through :barscarf: :barscarf:

we'll never agree on this (luckily UEFA seeding monkeys back me!)
I think the idea that frequent qualification can be used AGAINST Wenger is insane
guessing Swansea's average top division finish is probably pretty high, better than Everton's? (can't be arsed to check) but know they nearly won the league in the 80s in their first season, then were relegated the next one
good last season but obv only such a high average because they've spent about 4 years in the effing top flight

who has a better top flight record out of Swansea and Everton...?
