Wanger is accountable to Kroenke only, Gazidis is just a PR mouthpiece so Wangs can do as he pleases as long as we scrape into the cash league![]()
What a very strange football club we've become.

I would take Eto'o like a shot,
presumably he'll have to take the paycut to a lower level wherever he goes?

in which case $50k a week is reasonable, and surely with Garde in charge we should be favourites ?

I'm not sure we should be the team to gamble on rehabilitating his career though, because if we did get him, and if we did turn his career around he'd only bugger off to someone else soon.clockender1 wrote:yeah my bad. it was a Month...officepest wrote:

At 32 and for £5m, really? He'd also be on crazy money, even if he took a 50% wage cut we'd be looking at £150k p/w. He is also well past his prime.highburyJD wrote:I would take Eto'o like a shot,

Let Chelsea sign him, Maureen can afford to burn the Russian playboy's money whereas we need to be a little bit cuter now, especially after throwing money away on Chamakh, Bendy et al.

Seriously though WTF is it with the Gourcuff link every effing summer ?Red Gunner wrote:According to ESPN, he's getting €400,000 (£350,000) a month not a week:clockender1 wrote:you can forget Gourcuff as well - french press say he is on EU400,000 a week . that's GBP330k a week.
madness.
Lyon are actually looking to amortise his 5 year contract over 8 years, to make it do able for someone to share his wages
http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/229725.html
Why would anyone pay a player like Gourcuff £18m a year? That's the kind of money the likes of Messi and Ronaldo are on. You also have to consider the fact that Lyon aren't rich:
http://www.theguardian.com/football/blo ... h-football
That's probably how he ended up earning so bloody much from Lyon by his agent blackmailing Aulas every summer by dangling the 'Arsenal want him' threat over them every summer, thus earning his client a wage increase.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Continuous linking with Gourcuff is exceptionally lazy journalism. Just like Capoue being linked with us at least once every window, and then it turns out he's so shit he's on his way to Cardiff, and then eventually - even worse - Spurs
On another note Wenger and Gazidis must be delighted Gustavo is available at a reasonable price. Not because they'll sign him but because the rumours will tide them over for the next week or so until he moves to somebody else. At which point we'll rely on the start of the PL season distracting from that and probably kick up the Suarez interest again as Liverpool will be forced to comment and it'll fuel another week's worth of stories.
That'll die down right about the time we squeeze past Fenerbahce and Wenger will then happily sign one or two average players for £6-12m in the last few days - which is of course the best time to get quality players cheap.

The Guardian is reporting that Liverpool are going to make a £30m bid for Willian:
http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... akhachkala
If it's true, it either means Luis Suarez is leaving or that Liverpool are showing Suarez that they can compete.
If the Scousers keep Suarez and sign Willian, they'll really challenge for the top four.
This transfer window is horrible, instead of looking at how we can catch the Manc clubs and Chelsea, we are now looking over our backs and hoping that Sp*rs and Liverpool won't catch up with us

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Might as well start with a depressing first post by saying reports are circulating that Suarez has signed a contract extension of some kind and will be staying at LFC.

Really thought they were to far down the road for contract extensionsMrT wrote:Might as well start with a depressing first post by saying reports are circulating that Suarez has signed a contract extension of some kind and will be staying at LFC.

I'm sceptical myself, think he burned too many bridges. It's according to a Uruguayan journalist and twatter went mad over it, time will tell.swimmer1 wrote:Really thought they were to far down the road for contract extensionsMrT wrote:Might as well start with a depressing first post by saying reports are circulating that Suarez has signed a contract extension of some kind and will be staying at LFC.

as well as a goalie, midfield runner and an instant impact strikerQuartzGooner wrote:we could comfortably go out and get the goalkeeper, box-to-box midfielder and striker that I have been asking for the last two seasons!
But without these players, we run a very real risk of failure to qualify for the Champions League group stages, and to qualify in the top four.
That would significantly affect revenues.
we need backup at centre back and for Arteta.
Seems unlikely we are able to make all those signings
I rate Tets and the BFG but Park and Santos were trolley dash fails
we have an opportunity to step up and win things
but if we add just 4 or 5 players - all of them need to be successes for us to challenge.
