Leyton Gooner wrote:Excellent post Donaldo. Rodgers can do what the fuck he wants with his club. At the end of the day he's managed to keep hold of a key player so good on him. The real problem is Wenker/Gazidis/Kroenke lying to our fans, many of whom are just as gullible, about the "war chest" and "being ready to compete with Europe's elite" (yes clubs like fucking Napoli ffs :banghead: ).

But yet again Inspector Clueless twice backs down when asked to pay the going rate for top players.
I agree that it's almost unbelievable we haven't invested
the PR offensive that's come out of the club indicates they believe they will
Player investment is key, dealing with your supporters (customers yuk) is also very important

The be all and end all is results. If we get Suarez, Cesar, Jackson Martinez, Flamini, Gustavo and Alderweild I'd be delighted. If we then came 5th I think we should change managers.
If we sign nobody and come 4th I would be upset we hadn't gambled for more
and DEEPLY concerned about what the plan was for our cash reserves
but getting into the top 4 without buying would be seriously impressive management

Any Wenger love would be tempered by still not knowing to what extent hes in on any secret plan.
If the denouement of this cash accumating exercise is selling the club...
I can imagine die-hard apologists saying if he pulls off that miracle he deserves a bonus
personally it could seriously taint my view of him

I really can't see us not making signings
whether they're expensive or cheap they will be playing
a manager lives or dies on results, so these are very big signings for Wenger

Lets hope Giroud and Podolski are better 2nd season.
Significant improvement from Cazorla makes him the best player in the league.
Trouble is any injuries and 4th will be dependent on new signings
no excuses, if whoever comes in isnt really ready and we just miss out
that's not good enough.
We have to improve our cup performances, that may be even more dependent on new players
no excuses, we cannot be defeated by weak opposition.

And therein JD lies the reason why Wenger still has so much support. He is judged by the standards he sets for himself with his negligent attitude towards improving the squad.

Our team may be performing at a decent level considering the quality and depth in the squad but the question has to be is it performing well enough given the overall resources and circumstances available to the manager? It's not sufficient to simply write off his transfer policy which is at the root of our problems because he then performs pretty well with the squad we've got.

Not yet he hasn't!

And anyway, the guy has 3 years left of his contract, so Liverpool have quite a strong hand really.

Also, not sure Rogers is that influential - I reckon Fenway Group will have the final say. Rogers, like most managers, are just looking out for themselves.
According to Suarez, his contract lasts until 2018:

"Yes, we should talk this June or the next one, in 2014. My contract ends in 2018."

If you have 5mins to spare the Suarez thread today has mostly been hilarious.

Did he say it,didn't he say it,did he deny saying it or deny not saying it...they love him, they hate him, they love him they hate him...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh

Schizophrenia is kicking in over Red and Sh*te Kop with red dippers wandering around saying ...they say he's staying but he's not staying, they say he's staying but he's not staying

That excuse will not wash at the end of the summer if we end up with another mad trolley dash of also rans, has beens and never will bes'.

As far as I'm concerned this season is a win-win as he will either spend and do well(a trophy...any will do) or spend and screw up(out of top4,no trophy big wage bill,no extra revenue).

The former scenario(unlikely) will make us all happy, the latter scenario I still believe will see him leave to PSG or get the sack. I have faith that end of 2013/2014 will be like October 96. A watershed. I'll even stomach him completely and utterly f**king up this season because something will have to change.

Suarez move back on

"For now, due to all of the people's affection, I will be staying," Suárez was reported to have said in an attempt to regain favour at Anfield. The South American journalist Martin Charquero, who is close to the Liverpool striker, also tweeted: "Luis Suárez confirms to me that he will not leave Liverpool. The recent support of the fans influenced his decision. Suárez sees it as likely that he'll sign a renewal to the contract that binds him to Liverpool."

Speaking after scoring and starring in Uruguay's 4-2 friendly win over Japan in Tokyo, however, Suárez distanced himself from the dramatic U-turn. "I didn't say that, maybe someone else did," he was quoted as saying to Japan's Kyodo News. "The main thing is that I am here now with the national team."

If we performed as we have post-2008 when he joined do you think Wenger would have seen the new millennium as manager? Imagine if he came in and after near success in 96/97 he then sacrificed domestic cups and finished miles off the leaders every season, and sold Seaman, Adams and Bergkamp? He would have had zero support and been out on his arse. His previous success has bought him time.

To expand on my original point I still see/hear people moaning about us not signing players until the window closes, but then for the rest of the season they think he's done a good job with the squad we have (down to personal opinions) and seemingly forget that it's his bloody fault we have such an average squad!
