SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Yet again we're set to start the season with a depleted squad. He never fucking learns does he?

No direction, no leadership, no plan. 21st century Arsenal.

absolutley comical, to think this was the same man who built those 2002 & 2004 sides is absolutely mind boggling, I've never seen such apathetic management of a football squad  :|

Why are people surprised that we are 2 days away from the season starting and we have signed no one of note? Seriously.

It's groundhog season every season, kiddies.

Arsene will sign an African 17 year old, a French Ligue 2 reject and someone from Crystal Palace on the last day of the window. Then at some stage (February/March) when we are out of everfuckingthing and the fans are turning on him and the media are sticking the knife in, he will pipe up with "But I tried to sign Suarez and I tried to sign Higuain... we were maybe 5% away from signing them... blah... blah blah... blah blah... blah..."

Gustavo
It would appear that the lure of the bright lights or the fifth largest city in the German state of Lower Saxony plus a new Volkswagon Polo has made the difference here .
Apparantly London falls short in the cultural department as after all there are only about 150,000 Brazilians living here so settling in might have been a problem for the lad.
Or maybe he was a regular user of Public transport and thus afraid of bieng shot on the Tube by the Police !

One things for sure it isnt Wengers fault is it ?

Does anyone remember what Brian Clough did to Nottingham Forest in his last season?

Like Wenger, he was very succesful in his early years. However, in his last season, he was so stubborn and knew it all, he took Forest down...never say never!

Agreed BUT they will be basement buys, will have missed pre-season and will take 6-8 games to get up to speed. The other thing is the current squad, while on the face of it being keen for new blood, will inevitably have anxiety about any new signings as they put pressure on their own position. Seems to me Wenger has no emotional intelligence. Buying late is unsettling for the current players and disruptive overall. The likes of Chelsea and City are effectively settled - the new guys know their place and the incumbents know if they have retained their spot in the pecking order. Plus they all know if X needs the ball played just short, in front, always gets a bit forward, doesn't track back, gets stuck in or back of in 50-50s, hogs the ball or looks to space etc etc - It will be October before our guys have a clue AGAIN!!
Got to admire Mourinho - does his business fast and effectively, takes opportunities and is pro active in warding off unwelcome suitors ALTHOUGH i think they need a striker as much as we do.
We are $hit!
The other aspect of having a gossamer thin squad is there is no pressure of the first XI.
If Giroud misses 3 open goals on Saturday who is he worried about being replaced by? Bendtner?

you do know if we had been demoted to the Europa League how we would have bleated about lost revenue and not being able to spend-lucky we got champions league then!

going to kick off big time-we must surely be ready to blow.

At least the "I nearly signed them" Wenger XI grows ever stronger eh? From Ibra to Higuain, via Ronaldo and Cech, somewhere in a paralell universe we are hoovering up the trophies.
