Arteta injured out for 6 weeks

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

And six weeks will become....six months ? a season ? never fully fit again ? ...if it wasn't for our super quality signings I would be worried.

Anyway, I'm sure it's an opportunity for one of our outstanding youth prospects  . The Lord (Wenger) giveth, the Lord (Wenger) taketh away..........

Another area of the squad that has consistently needed strengthening since 2008 and known to everybody in the universe apart from the bloke who has worked in football for 30 years

Arteta is the only player in the squad with the maturity and discipline to play in this key role and its no surprise to me that our overall defensive strength has got 100% better with him in the role.....nor is it a surprise that when he doesn't play there our record is poor

Of course we've had all summer to strengthen that position including several weeks when the top 3 clubs in the country were changing manager but as Wenger says "the transfer market is different these days", conveniently forgetting that even clubs like Sunderland have managed to recruit virtually an entire new squad whilst he's been doing his economic lectures throughout the world
