SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Honestly I'd rather finish 12th and see the back of this old fart and get in someone capable of building a 10 year team like Klopp
Agreed... Why give the delusional geriatric old :censored: a chance to spend the fabled warchest, he'd only waste it on more third rate injury prone wasters!
We had the chance to sign a number of top class strikers - one of which is still an option. If we bid £50m for Suarez they'd sell. Rooney was never coming - he wants to join Chelsea, Higuain would have joined in a heartbeat and Jovetic could have been secured from 1st June as we did with Podolski before other clubs got their new managers in place

Now we are fishing around in the Category B signings bucket, everyone knows we are desperate and someone like Swansea will see us coming from a mile away with full pockets and demand big prices for players like Michu and Williams.

All of this is 100% the fault of the manager and the board. This business should all have been wrapped up ahead of the Asia tour and these players should be fit and raring to go in Arsenal colours now.

That is my problem with Wenger, he makes the same mistakes. I was prepared to forgive the break up of the 2004 team because I felt he was genuinely building a team to rival it in 2008 but he then allowed that team to disintegrate and replaced top players with overrated kids

Now he is repeating the same mistakes of 2 years ago where he will do all of his transfer business when we are already nine points off the league leaders and desperate to sign whoever is available late in the day at inflated prices. He never ever learns. As soon as 4th place is secured he removes all of the mistakes from his memory as its mission accomplished

We have 2 fit centre halves right now. the TV5 injury has been known for weeks. The fact that we have more games than any other team in August has been known since we beat Newcastle. Now The New Tony Adams is suspended. Wenger has had weeks to sort this out.

Gibbs is now injured. TV5 out for weeks as above, Santos long since gone and recently Miquel loaned out. Not a single fit left footed defender at the start of the season at one of the world's richest clubs. One man responsible = Wenger.

The man is embarrassing himself and the club. Tonight we are the laughing stock of the PL.
SteveO, I know from reading your posts in the past but is your dad still in Wenger's camp? or is he leaning towards your BBQ view yet? (just interested)....

Is he better than Higuain?? - that's surely the barometer here, because he's the player we decided we didn't want to sign even though he was within budget and wanted to join.

Signing a worse player is unacceptable, surely? :?
It's desperation. He wanted Higuain but then thought he'd get Suarez so stalled, Higuain wanted to come to us and delayed joining Napoli until it became apparent we had pulled out of the deal (for whatever reason).

Now he can't get Suarez he's apparently turning to Michu, a player who was available for peanuts not so long ago. If our extensive scouting team had bothered to look at unfashionable Rayo we could have had him for £2m. Now Swansea and everyone else knows we're desperate any player we try to sign will have mysteriously increased in value.

Yep, waiting until the fag end of the market to do a trolley dash makes perfect sense.[/quote]

I''ll laugh my head off if Wenger pays 20 million of OUR pounds for Michu!!!

One Arsene Wenger, there's only One Arsene Wenger!!

We need to bid for a world class goalkeeper, a world class defender and a world class defensive midfielder, not a world class striker...we have one already playing on the left bloody wing...

I personally think that Micho has a real touch of class about everything he does and i'd love to sign him however i'm pretty sure that he's (Euro) cup-tied, which doesn't really help.

I predict we will sign last one because.. well must I say it? :)

After that performance, the lack of leadership and honesty from the club and the fans divided what half decent player would come even if we offered overs?

LOL world class striker on the left wing, who? Fuck me what's more annoying that wenger not spending any money is other gooners talking out their backsides.

We DON'T have any world class strikers. We should have signed higuain and a second rate italian side snapped him up, David Vila concluded that a Spanish side could do something in three days that an EPL side (and yes I am sure 100% its us) couldn't do in 3 months so do you blame him for staying in Spain when he would have been perfect for our set up. As for Rooney and Suarez they are both pipe dreams.

Now moving on if we could get michu for £20 mill, why not. At least the player has a strong record in our league and we wont get all the shit that comes with suarez for £30 mill less. AND that leaves spare cash to strengthen the other areas that we knew needed strengthening before the inevitable injuries came.

The market has just risen another 50 percent after that performance and injury pick ups so Jo Bloggs from Melchester Rovers will now be valued at 4 times what he was .

We are going to get raped in the market and end up with more overpaid dross if we do spend .
Id rather not spend anything sack Wenger and accept a season of crap then get busy next year under a new manager.

The decision to ship out all our fringe players on loan has left us bereft of players.

Wengers arrogance is now only exceeded by his incompetence !

Woke up with a mother of a hangover after yesterdays game...

I would never have believed it had anyone said 10 years ago that Wenger (& the board - they are equally culpable in all this) would be the cause of Gooners turning against one another to the point of it getting physical....A Sad Sad day......and then to read & hear Wenger trying to off-load the blame on the referee (who did have a poor game But wasn't the cause for the defeat) which some were claiming after the game.

I guess there will have to be a period of utter confusion and feeling beyond desperate (and I'm not talking about the last 6 seasons) until he goes.

Again we are now being told of (more) inner turmoil at the club. It used to be a smokescreen of whether there was money to spend or not, the board would infer one thing and Wenger say something other. Now, we are hearing whispers that there is a major rift between Gazidis & Wenger - And the reason Gazidis announced the War Chest (in business terms equivalent to ensuring we pay over the odds for any signings) was to force Wenger's hand to spend, AND that Kroenke has told Wenger to do what he thinks is best.

After yesterday's debacle I am a mix of feeling genuinely sad - Gooners at each others throats. Anger at the Board & Board (inc; Gazidis) and a feelng of almost relief that it has at last come to this state of (ill) affairs - something we all would have preferred didn't need to happen for the necessary changes to happen.

Wenger brought us all Trophies, Success and Wonderful Times I will remember those times to my dying day. But now in all honesty I do not trust the board, or Gazidis or Wenger. We are being taken for mugs and it just cannot continue.

But now we are going to have to suffer even more because Wenger & Co have sat on their hands while the scum have made some quality signings and that's before the sale of monkey boy is confirmed, if he doesn't go they will definitely finish above us, no matter who we now (try and) sign in the now Traditional Transfer Window Trolley Dash.

We can either sit back and see how it all unfolds or we can protest in every way available to us.

Outside/Inside the ground banners/placards - the latter being more effective because the stewards trying to remove 100 small placards (that will be picked up by the media/cameras etc) rather than a bed sheet size that will be seized and the Gooners responsible removed, even banned.
Letters to the club - yes, I know they'll be binned without being read but it will still be noted that more letters of protest are arriving then ever before and of course comments on the social websites...and phone calls to the radio progs etc.

If we want the changes we need to up our profiles/voices and ensure that it is not allowed to go quiet and slip under the radar, because you can guarantee the club will now be doing all the PR manouevres they know to try and distract the media and to try and convince the AKB's and any undecided Gooners that all will be well.

fuck my head hurts.

How true...We were already going to have to pay over the odds because of the 'War Chest' public announcement - which was the equivalent of financial suicide(ish)...so NOW Wenger will have to pay even more in the Trolley Dash

fixed that one for you mate

Not that I'm agreeing that podolski is a world class striker anymore but he's not even playing well enough to get a game on the left wing!
