Everton reject £28m bid for Fellaini and Baines from Manchester United

Manchester United have had a joint £28m bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines rejected by Everton, with the Merseyside club intent that neither is for sale.

The deal consisted of £16m for Fellaini and £12m for Baines. Everton insist neither Baines or Fellaini will be sold before the end of the summer transfer window on 2 September.

David Moyes, the United manager, sanctioned the offer for his two former players at the end of last week but Everton instantly turned it down.

An Everton spokesperson told the Guardian: "We can confirm a bid was made and that it was rejected out of hand."

Fellaini cost around €19m (£16m at the present rate) with add-ons when Moyes bought the Belgian midfielder to Everton from Standard Liege in 2008. With United offering around the same sum it appears the club do not believe the 25-year-old's value has increased after five years of Premier League experience.

The rejection of the joint bid is the latest set-back in the market for Moyes and Ed Woodward, the executive vice-president. Their pursuit of Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas, the manager's prime target, also appears unlikely after the midfielder spoke publicly about his desire to stat at the club.

Ignoring Wanker's complete idiocy and apparent belief that Michu is worth £20M- £4M more than Henry- why the fuck haven't Everton insisted on one of those clauses whereby Manure can't buy any of their players for at least a year? Surely they could have held Manure to ransom over their manager.
Moyes was out of contract...
And that explains it. Thank you.

Spot on, to let that *word censored* spend money now all the decent players have joined other clubs would be a massive mistake, Wenger is causing serious damage to our club as each day passes

I can't bring myself to beleive the Michu tales. I'm almost certain he'll be rubbish if he leaves Swansea.

I would rather promote Akpom than spend anything over £15million on Michu. Both he and Williams looked decidedly average against Manure on Saturday.

If you are going to spend either buy young and cheap or World class and expensive. Expensive and average is a p*ss take. Before anyone says he was brilliant once, Franny f**king Jeffers looked good once, as did Ricketts,Alves,Rebrov,...there is a long non-illustrious list of sh*te out there that far too much money was spunked on and we are about to make the list even longer. Even Benteke didn't look that hot against us on Saturday. All the damage was done by Agbonlahor and not just in winning the pens. So what should we go and spunk £20million+ on him ? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Corrected that for you, if it was "we", then "we" wouldn't be in this mess, we would have strengthened where required 3 months ago

So was Silvestre in 2005, hardly a benchmark.

And that fat keeper from Burnley in 2008. In fact, we make most people look good.

Wenger isnt going to spend above 15 million. Look at this summer, he passed on Higuain because he would have cost 30 mil, and could have bought soldado for 26 mil, but let him go to the scum, just so he could chase a player, who was never going to be sold to us. It isnt beyond him, to bid for Suarez, just to make it appear like he is active in the window, expect a couple of 10-15 million signings before the window is closed.

We've just made a bid for cabaye according to ssn - cabaye is, imo at least, the midfield equivalent of michu

Michu and Cabaye :barscarf: - Ivan was right, we can do deals that will excite the fans! :barscarf: :( :(

Throw in Williams, and we have the new world class spine we've been craving for.
