SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Please bring back David Dein, he was great at doing the transfer business.

I reckon that ship has sailed, plus he's nearly 70 now.

How about one of the stray foxes from Hyde Park then? Let's be honest, anyone could do a better job at the transfers than the clowns we have at present.

Decent player but we'll have to practically double our offer which would be stupidity of the highest order.

We need quality players all over the place but if he doesn't address the keeper I'll lose the plot.

I cannot understand why we have not had a single competent keeper since Jens left. No Cesar? No Reina? We are one injury away from going from in trouble in the goalkeeping dept to being utterly boned.

Other things that would do a better job:

1) A wax mannequin
2) decomposing vegetation
3) a corpse

I just meant that I don't see it happening, even though he loves Arsenal and even if there were to be wholesale change.

Carragher talking sense on Sky, great to see people putting the boot in on Le Gimp -

"If Cabaye was that important to Arsenal I think they'd have bought him by now. It feels to me like a panic. If he was that impressed wanted Cabaye that much, why not buy him two months ago? What are you waiting for..."

Being realistic (i.e. Suarez ain't coming) we aren't likely to sign any top quality players without paying massively over the odds, but AW could bolster the squad quickly if he gets his finger out.

GK - Cesar (or maybe even Casillas)
DR - Richards
DC - Sakho
DM - Flamini on a one year contract (with an option only for us to extend if he does well), maybe McCarthy or Cabaye.

Wide - I like McManaman from Wigan
ST - I only know English and Spanish leagues well and Adrian Lopez is a good all-round striker.

My worry is that AW's approach to buying players is more confused by the day and I can see us picking up a couple of half-decent players and playing until Jan with a squad that is average quality and too small.

No he's not. But we're in a ridiculous position where we need to strengthen both first team quality and squad depth substantially. He would be an okay signing imo and we need depth just about everywhere - including CM where we've overworked Arteta for two seasons and Wilshere & Rosicky have less than impressive injury records.

Pointless going round making these sorts of bids though. We'll probably follow it up with a £5m offer for Ashley Williams and other similar offers that aren't going to get accepted. Anybody could have told you there was no way Newcastle would accept £10m for Cabaye today yet we go in and put in the bid anyway. Just as well everyone knows we have £80m to spend and we're desperate as fuck after getting dicked at home by a poor team.

Our best possible summer signings would be Alisher Usmanov, David Dein and perhaps Michael Laudrup. Our current policies were outdated in 2006 and it is time to get with the times. We are football supporters. 4th place and high profits are not trophies.
